Our love letter to great books is a long one. The best books in our lives taught us empathy, gave us perspective, provided us with respite in troubled times, or just gave us an escape into a totally different world. To kick off our 2026 Rumspringa Author Series, we want to focus on how books can build resilience and help us sustain in unsustainable times.

Emely Rumble, a graduate of both as well as the will be joining us on Saturday, February 21st to discuss her debut book, Bibliotherapy in the Bronx. A distinguished member of The National Association of Poetry Therapy, Emely’s work has been featured in respected publications such as Parents Magazine, ‘School Library Journal’, Bold Journey Magazine, BronxNet News, and The Bronx Is Reading.

The Brood crew will be whipping up the best food and drinks in Western Mass, so don’t miss our kickoff event for the year! Attendance is free and signed copies will be available for purchase on-site, but please RSVP in advance. Link in bio.

“It is a hallmark of failing societies, I’ve learned, this requirement that one always be in possession of a valid reason to exist.”

The President of the United States is a demented pe*****le waging a murderous war against the people of this nation. After fomenting a failed coup five years ago, he and his cadre of fascist white Christian supremacists have pardoned and now deputized a secret police force to terrorize American cities, and we are now in a period of open state executions in the street. If you were holding out hope that we could grind our way through this and come back to some hot girl 2016 summer, fu***ng kill that denial now. We’ll never not be the nation that kidnapped children and shot innocent citizens in the face for the crime of existing in Minneapolis, and the status quo wasn’t tenable before it became intolerable.

Moving forward, we’ll be highlighting books, people, and organizations doing the righteous work of resisting and stopping these brown shirts wherever we can. Our first organization we want to highlight is the LUCE Immigrant Justice Network of Massachusetts. These folks are showing up every day to protect our most vulnerable people, and we’re going to show up for them now.

Until the secret police raids of American cities end, we will be donating a portion of all book sales to LUCE to help fund their work. It’s not a panacea, but every dollar helps, and it certainly helps more than screaming into the abyss.

And for any ambitious opposition party member who wants to run on a winning platform this year: Epstein Files then Nuremberg Trials. That’s it, that’s the platform, nothing else matters until we smash these insurgent n***s with every lever of power we can.

I know this will sound like New England cope during our first polar vortex of the year, but there’s a deep beauty to the natural reset this time of year offers. It’s not really the start of something new, that’s just what bad faith grindset mindset salesmen tell you on this hell app. It’s a much better season to embrace the long nights as respite in a pretty brutal macro moment.

A lot to come this year: more author events, new store openings, and a strong focus on community building (still can’t shake the 13 years of Mennonite school fully on that one). But first, a little more rest and recovery.

“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”

Yesterday, a violent agent of the state murdered a citizen in cold blood in public. As she bled out in the street, the murderer fled the scene while his accomplices pointed their guns at a physician and threatened to kill him for attempting to administer life saving care. The leaders of this authoritarian regime quickly sprung to action to smear the victim, claiming she was a “radicalized terrorist” who deserved what she got. They are fu***ng lying.

It’s an event many of us felt was inevitable after a majority of Americans decided to put a felonious, coup-plotting pe*****le with a melting frontal lobe back into the White House. So now we have to ask ourselves a straightforward question: what do we do moving forward?

I still remember attending Barack Obama’s inauguration in 2009. After watching hundreds of thousands of Iraqis murdered for oil interests while corrupt bankers impoverished millions of Americans, I felt confident that now we could begin the work of accountability and reform. Instead, we were told to “look forward, not backward,” which is neoliberal for “shut up peasants, we’re trying to have a nice summer in Nantucket.”

So I don’t have any big solutions for what we do moving forward. It will take the rest of our lives to heal these collective wounds. But one thing we can do in our little bookstore is to consistently speak truth to power, as much as it may seem like screaming into the void at times.

Renee Nicole Good was not a terrorist. She did not threaten federal law enforcement. She was a law abiding citizen, a loving wife and mother, and a treasured member of her community. We know what ICE did today, we know who they did it to, and we will not stop demanding accountability.

We found the N***s in Argentina after the Holocaust, I think we’ll be able to find some Proud Boys in Phoenix.
