We are excited to share with you another protein vendor that we love at MFM! Clay's Smoked Tuna is owned by Abrian Clay. Abrian started this business 11 years ago because he wanted to bring a new delicious healthy dish to Memphis. The business brings tuna from the Gulf of Mexico to the Bluff City, where 2 hours of smoke and the finest ingredients come together leading to a superbly tasting product. Abrian knew that the business would flourish because the product is amazing.

Clay's Smoked Tuna has been a vendor at MFM for two years. The MFM customers have fallen in love with Clay's products. Abrian said this about their love of their customers: "We aim to make customers feel like they are part of our families." Despite the name, they have products other than tuna; their chicken salads for instance are also hot commodities at the market. They sell out of them fast!

Clay's Smoked Tuna products are sold in Cordelia's Market, Muddys Bake Shop, and their chicken salads are sold in over 80 Kroger stores in the midsouth.

Abrian loves the MFM. He shops with 9906 Candle Co. for the most extraordinary candle scents and with The Tea Bar 901 for local honey and seamoss, which he thinks are superior products!

During the month of May, we are highlighting some of the protein vendors who help us harvest happiness at MFM. Today we celebrate Big Momma's and Granny's Catering. Big Momma's is owned by Tanocha Thedford. She started her business in 2008 and added packaged goods in 2018. Tanocha named the business to pay tribute to her grandmothers: Big Momma, who was her father's mother, and Granny, who was her mother's mother. Tanocha started the business so that folks can experience the love and southern cuisine she enjoyed as a child.

Big Momma's has been a vendor at MFM for four years. They have many loyal customers but they especially love one customer in particular who tells everyone about Big Momma's and has brought many new customers to Big Momma's. It sounds to us like they should make that customer a brand ambassador!

Tanocha loves the market for its variety of produce and packaged products, its atmosphere and music, and for its staff that is always near and always eager to help. She especially loves to purchase tomatoes from Tims Family Farm. She actually did a small cooking session on the local news where she used Ripley tomatoes.

Big Momma's most popular product is their smoked chicken salad. Come try it for yourself!

We are so thankful to have Lazy Dog Farm help us harvest happiness one Saturday at a time!

While living in Arlington, Bruce & Mary Scarberry purchased land that would become The Lazy Dog Farm, LLC. At that time, they had 3 dogs, Frost, Tundra and Otis who were very lazy, but on the farm, it was like the fountain of youth for them and they would run around the whole time. The Scarberrys have been fortunate to always have dogs calling the farm home.

In 2011, the land was originally a weekend get away. Bruce & Mary quickly realized that they wanted family life to be more intentional than their fast paced city life.

An on-farm harvest and butcher facility was added in 2025 because of a desire to maintain quality control of the products produced. This facility is in the final stages of USDA Grant of Inspection Services and will offer that same level of quality to other local producers.

Some of the most popular lazydogfarmsllc products are Beef and Pork Bacons, B+Oinker SmashBurger Balls and Pasture Raised Chicken.

Bruce explained, ‘We have been fortunate to make many friends over our years at MFM. It is always great to see them. Two of our dearest customers, Mary and Pat, have truly become like family supporting our growth throughout the years. They are honorary farm aunts to our two feral children. ‘

Bruce is also thankful that the Memphis Farmers Market is a safe environment. As a farm family, the Scarberrys children come to market with them. ‘Sophia and Wyatt have grown up at MFM and we never have concern for their safety or whereabouts while at market. Market vendors are supportive and kind to each other. We really love the vibe the market is putting out this year.’

The Scarberrys try to support as many vendors as we can. One of their most recent purchases was Lake’s Catfish for Mothers Day dinner. Sophia and Wyatt will stand firm that they have never had a popsicle, lemonade, cookes, snack, bread or food truck item that did not meet their strict standard of excellence.
