A little back-to-school appreciation for the folks behind the scenes. 🛠️🎶

While students are getting ready to head back to the band room, our repair shop is hard at work making sure their instruments are ready to go with them.

These guys and gals do incredible work repairing, adjusting, cleaning, play-testing, and making sure the instruments your kids depend on are ready for another school year.

It's a busy time of year back there, and we're incredibly grateful for the skill and care they put into every instrument that comes across their benches.

It's the busiest time of year at Amro Music, and back-to-school season is in full swing.

And to everyone who chose a family-owned local shop over a big box store, we want to thank you. That choice is the whole reason we get to do this.

Thanks to the parents, the band directors who keep sending families our way, and the grandparents who co-signed a rental for a kid who might quit in six weeks. Or might not.

Every veteran band parent knows the battle: "Go practice."

If someone you know is about to hear their first month of beginner squeaks, share this with them!

What works:

⏱️ 10-15 minutes a day beats an hour on Sunday. Short and consistent builds the habit (and the embouchure).
🎒 A band instrument is just like any other school supply. Encourage your child to bring the instrument home each day (and back to band class!) for personal practice time.
🎵 Learning band takes time and is hard work! Encourage your child to make mistakes and be comfortable with those.
🎉 Celebrate small wins. First full song, first week of daily practice. Make it a big deal.

Your job isn't to be the band director at home. It's just to help build healthy band habits!

Thank you to every band director and music educator who joined us at Old Dominick this past weekend!

Every year, this party is one of our favorite nights. It's a chance for us to see the people who spend their days building music programs and teaching kids to play, and just as much, it's a chance for all of you to catch up with each other.

Some of you have known each other for years. Some of you met for the first time on that rooftop. That's exactly what we hope for!

You do this work in separate schools, often as the only music person in the building. Getting everyone in one room, with good food and a great view, is our small way of saying we see it and we're grateful for it.

A big thank-you to Old Dominick Distillery for opening up their space and rooftop to us. We couldn't ask for a better spot to spend an evening with this community.

Thank you to our young music educators who spent their Saturday with us at Measure One!

Starting your first years in a band or orchestra room is hard work, and every director who walked through our doors this morning did it because they want to do right by their students. We're grateful you chose to spend the day with us!

Measure One is our workshop for new and early-career directors across the Mid-South. It's a full day of practical clinics on the stuff that fills those first weeks: classroom routines, recruiting and retention, rehearsal techniques, budgets and inventory, and setting expectations with students and parents.

THANK YOU to the veteran educators and our team who led sessions and shared what they've learned the hard way.

Here's to a strong year for your programs. Your students are lucky to have you!
