I wanted to share an important reminder to stay vigilant online, especially in the wake of major political events. It's been observed that phishing campaigns often see a significant uptick following these events, as cybercriminals exploit the heightened public interest and emotions.

🔍 What is Phishing?
Phishing is a type of cyber attack where scammers attempt to trick you into providing personal information, such as passwords, credit card numbers, or Social Security numbers, by pretending to be a legitimate source.

📈 Why the Increase?
After major political happenings, such as elections, legislative changes, or international incidents, there's a surge in online discussions and information sharing. Cybercriminals take advantage of this by crafting deceptive emails, messages, and websites that appear to come from trusted sources, capitalizing on the chaos and confusion.

🚨 How to Protect Yourself:

Verify Sources: Always double-check the sender's email address or the website URL. Look for subtle misspellings or unusual domain names.

Practice the "Close and Check" philosophy where you close out an email and look up the information for yourself. An example would be you received an email asking for funding to Mr. Trump's campaign for re-election. Never trust the source, always close out the media and look up the relevant sources.

Be Skeptical: If an email or message seems urgent or asks for personal information, question its legitimacy. Contact the organization directly using official contact information (close and check).

Stay Updated: Keep your antivirus software and operating systems up to date to guard against the latest threats.

Educate Yourself: Familiarize yourself with common phishing tactics and stay informed about current events to better spot suspicious activity.
