Ascent Fly Fishing

Ascent Fly Fishing Our biologist & fly geeks are here to give you confidence for your next fly fishing adventure 🎣

With every tie and every fly box packed, our goal is to answer the universal questions of the fly angler:

1) How do I match the hatch?
2) Which flies should I use?
3) When do I fish each pattern? At Ascent Fly Fishing, our passion and drive is to make both the science and cost of fly fishing accessible to all, with expertly-tied patterns and selections that match the lifestages of the bugs on the waters you fish, when you fish them.

🔴 A Simple Summer Fly Selection Tip 🔴

As water temperatures rise and flows drop, it’s time to start thinking about one color more than any other:
Red.

Many aquatic insects produce more hemoglobin as water temperatures increase and dissolved oxygen decreases. That means more red coloration showing up naturally in the bugs trout are feeding on.

Add in lower, clearer water where red wavelengths remain highly visible, and you’ve got a color that stands out to fish for all the right reasons.

🎥 Watch the video to learn why red becomes so effective this time of year and see a few of our favorite red patterns to add to your fly box.

We’re excited to introduce Victoria Becerra () to the Ascent Fly Guides team!

Victoria is passionate about helping others experience the joy of fly fishing, especially women who are looking to learn, build confidence, and find their place in the fly fishing community. Whether she’s teaching a new technique, sharing stories from the water, or handing out a few hand-tied flies, she is always looking for ways to make others feel welcome.

Her experience spans a wide range of fisheries, from rivers and creeks to reservoirs, alpine lakes, and even saltwater on the fly. No matter the water, her goal remains the same: to share her passion for fly fishing through education, laughter, and meaningful time on the water.

Outside of guiding, Victoria has served in the Fire Service for more than a decade. Caring for others isn’t just her profession, it’s who she is.

“As a guide, I want to share my passion for fly fishing whether that’s through teaching, sharing a laugh, or making a friend on the water.”

If you’re looking for a guide who brings experience, enthusiasm, and a genuine desire to help others succeed, Victoria is ready to get you on the water.

We’re excited to welcome Kaeden Edstrom () to the Ascent Fly Guides team.

Kaeden has been passionate about the outdoors from a young age, and fly fishing has become one of his greatest pursuits outside of hockey. He loves the little fish just as much as the big ones and is committed to helping others discover the same appreciation for the sport that he has.

When he’s not on the water or on the ice, you’ll find him golfing, soaking up the sun, and spending as much time outdoors as possible.

“I enjoy the little fish just as much as the big ones, and I hope to help people fall in love with it like I have. I’m obsessed with fly fishing, but my main gig is playing NCAA hockey as a goalie. Outside of fishing and hockey, I love spending time outdoors, whether that’s golfing, soaking up sun, or just enjoying nature.”

If you’re looking for a guide who brings enthusiasm, patience, and a genuine love for the outdoors to every trip, Kaeden is ready to help.

If you’ve driven by the shop and noticed the parking area torn up, don’t worry — we’re not installing a trout stream out front (although that would be pretty awesome).

Our new coffee shop neighbors are having water and sewer lines installed, which means the parking directly in front of the shop will be impacted through June 17.

The good news:
✅ The sidewalk is open
✅ The shop is open
✅ The rest of the parking lot is available

It’s about an 80-foot walk to the door, and we’ll be here ready to fill your fly boxes, drop pins on productive fishing spots, and get you set up for your next adventure.

We appreciate your patience and look forward to seeing you soon.

The good news? We are absolutely OPEN for business.

Simply park in the main lot and take the short walk over to the shop. We’ll be here ready to help with flies, gear, hatch reports, fishing intel, and plenty of new spots to explore this summer.

🎥 Our Story — Through a New Lens

A local high school student, Oliver, put together this short documentary on Ascent — and we’re honored to share it.

It dives into where we started (yes, the garage), how we got here, and most importantly, why we do what we do.

Huge thanks to Oliver for taking the time to tell this story.

🎥 Give it a watch — it means a lot to us.

A closed caddis case is basically a time capsule — and it tells you exactly when to start thinking dry flies.

Crack one open and you can see the progression:
• Some are still developing — ~1–2 weeks out
• Others are nearly fully formed — days away from hatching

👉 What that means:
We’re getting close to a strong caddis emergence

Start thinking:
• Larger tan caddis
• Around size 12

The signs are there — it’s just a matter of timing now.

🎥 Watch the video to see it up close.
