Here is Ian Marion, who is the Grandson of Ray Marion and Carol Marion.
Ian is carrying on the tradition of trombone playing, which started with Grandpa Ray, carried on by his son Mike, and the two older boys Corey Marion and Bradley . There is a 4th boy, not quite old enough to start band. We will see if he carries the tradition on!
Ian is getting ready to start marching band in his freshman year at Covington HS . He played in the marching band his 8th grade year.

Thanks for coming in Carol and Ian !

Here is a Elkhart M Series Conn 88H slide that I did an interchangeable screw in leadpipe conversion on. My customer wanted to try different leadpipes in his trombone, and this is a solid way of doing this work.
There are many variations when it comes to trombone leadpipes, that can affect tone, resistance, focus, etc.
Variations include venturi size, which is basically the inside taper, which affects how it blows, how it opens up your sound, or restricts it.
The length, and the material the leadpipe makes a difference. Leadpipes have been made in yellow brass (standard), gold brass, rose brass, sterling silver, and nickel silver. The material can affect resonance, and projection.
The first several inches of a trombone are quite critical.

We recently took on this Besson Double Horn from a local University. It had sat in their stock room disassembled, parts in bags for years. We were asked to see if we could get it back together. All the parts were there, the valves were in good shape with good compression. After we got an estimate approval we got to work. It is now in great playable condition, and will be back in the hands of the University soon.
This Besson Horn was built by the Josef Lidl, in the Czech Republic. Lidl Instruments were established in 1892, so they have been making brass instruments for a long time!

Ben Stingo made the 3 hour trip earlier this week from Saint Albans West Virginia for me to work on his Bach 42B Bb/F Trombone with a infinity valve, and his Bach 16 Trombone. I just did some much needed maintenance on them while he was in town.
Ben graduated from Ohio University where he studied Trombone with Lucas Rego Borges
Here is what Ben wrote me about his current situation:

"I’m currently a middle school choir teacher at Sissonville Middle School in the Charleston area in West Virginia.

I’m new to the area so I only have a few regular gigs. I have a few private trombone students as well.

I’m expecting a son in the next couple of weeks so that is going to keep me extra busy."

Thanks Ben for coming in. It was nice seeing you again. Good luck on the upcoming birth of your new son!!
