Beech hedging: should you plant 3 or 4 plants per metre? 🌳
We get asked this every day once planting season comes around, so here’s our honest answer.
👉 For most gardens, we recommend 3 per metre (about 33cm apart, in a single row).
Why?
✅ Each plant gets more room for its roots and more light, so it grows stronger
✅ The plants aren’t fighting each other for water and nutrients
✅ You buy fewer plants and spend less, without losing the hedge you want
✅ Trimmed lightly for the first couple of years, it thickens out beautifully
