𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐄𝐔 𝐋𝐚𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐮𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐇𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐲

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) today welcomes the introduction of new EU labelling rules for honey, which came into effect on 14 June 2026.

Under the new rules, all countries of origin for blended honey must be clearly indicated on the label, in descending order of weight, along with the percentage contribution of each country.

Honey on the market on or before 14 June 2026 will continue to be on the market until stock runs out.

New EU rules coming in as of yesterday regarding labeling and origins of honey. This is where our honey bees forage. From Moyne near Tinahely, Clonmore, Rathwood down to Kellistown and up to Lisnavagh. Yes John has a few apiaries. Yes our honey is made by Irish/Carlow/Sth Wicklow honey bees.

So our bees are feeding on wild roses, clover and bramble.

We can’t believe that Bramble has just started flowering on our laneway. In times gone by, it would start well into June and for beekeepers June was known as the ‘June gap’. Hawthorn has just about finished now. Our climate is changing.
