Meet Debbie, from Queen Bee Handbags.
Debbie’s love of sewing began when she was a child, watching her mother create beautiful things with fabric and thread. Debbie was fascinated by the way she could transform simple pieces of material into something both practical and beautiful. Inspired by her mum’s creativity, Debbie soon began sewing herself, making her own clothes and later creating garments for her daughter. Sewing became more than just a hobby—it was a way to express her creativity and make something unique with her own hands.
As Debbie’s skills and confidence grew, she discovered quilting and became captivated by the artistry, colour combinations, and precision involved in creating quilted pieces. It wasn’t long before another creative avenue caught her attention: bag making. From the moment she made her first bag, she was intrigued by the entire process. She loved the challenge of combining fabrics, textures, and functional design to create something both beautiful and useful.
What started as making bags for herself and family members quickly became a passion—some might even say an obsession! Debbie spent countless hours researching new techniques, exploring different patterns, and sourcing interesting fabrics. Every new project taught her something different, and she found herself constantly inspired to create more. That was over 15 years ago, and her enthusiasm for bag making has never faded.
Today, bag making remains as rewarding as ever. Every bag is created with care, attention to detail, and a genuine love for the craft. What began as a childhood fascination has evolved into a lifelong creative journey, one that continues to inspire her with every new design she makes.
