It’s looking like a good time to start locking in fertiliser, with prices generally creeping up around this time of year and supply starting to tighten.
The global urea market is still firm this week, and overall conditions haven’t shifted much. Availability is tight as several major regions hit their peak demand period. Production levels remain low in several key exporting countries, and China is still mostly out of the export market for now.
Producers in the Middle East are heading into February feeling confident, backed by strong order books and solid interest from markets including Australia. Southeast Asia is also steady, with recent shipments into Australia confirmed.
Prices have been climbing, though the pace has slowed. There’s still plenty of uncertainty around how high things might go, especially with a large Indian tender possibly on the horizon. If global demand lifts sharply, prices could rise further though that might also cool demand in markets like Australia.
I haven’t got a crystal ball but feel free to give me a call to discuss your fertiliser requirements.

🐑 Sheep Farming Fact Friday! 🐑

Did you know it takes a sheep's rumen microbes 14 to 21 days to fully adapt to a high-grain diet?

It’s not just about them "getting used to" eating the grain; it’s a complete biological shift. The microbes that excel at digesting grass are different from those needed to safely handle starch.

Introducing grain too quickly can cause a rapid drop in rumen pH, leading to acidosis (grain poisoning).

This feed change is also one of the biggest risk periods for clostridial diseases, especially Pulpy Kidney (Enterotoxaemia).

That's why ensuring your 5-in-1 or 6-in-1 vaccinations are up-to-date before you start introducing grain isn't just a good idea—it's critical.
