Did you know hepatitis B and hepatitis C are major causes of liver cancer? 🤔

The good news is that hepatitis is preventable and treatable. Hepatitis B can be prevented through vaccination and managed with effective treatment, while hepatitis C can be treated and cured.

If you're not sure whether you've had the hepatitis B vaccine, or you'd like to be tested, speak with your GP. Taking action today could help protect your liver health for years to come.

Learn more about hepatitis B vaccination eligibility by speaking with your doctor or calling 13 43 25 84.

Your lungs deserve clean air. 🫁

Vapes are often marketed as a safer alternative, but the reality is that va**ng exposes your body to chemicals that can cause cellular stress and DNA damage. Over time, repeated damage to your cells can increase your cancer risk.

Choosing a vape-free life means:
🌱 Protecting your lungs and airways
🌱 Avoiding unnecessary chemical exposure
🌱 Staying free from ni****ne addiction
🌱 Supporting your long-term health

The best thing you can inhale is fresh air. Learn more about the harm of e-cigarettes here: https://www.cancer.org.au/cancer-information/causes-and-prevention/smoking/e-cigarettes

Big weekend? Thinking about cutting back on alcohol? Your liver will thank you. 🍷

Alcohol can lead to liver damage and cirrhosis, which can increase the risk of liver cancer. The good news? Small changes can make a big difference over time.

✅ Aim for a couple of alcohol-free days each week
✅ Alternate alcoholic drinks with water
✅ Choose low and no-alcohol options when you can
✅ Swap a pub catch-up for a coffee or a walk

Looking after your health doesn't have to happen all at once. What's one small change you can make this week?

Spending your workdays breathing in damaging diesel engine exhaust (DEE) can increase your risk of getting lung cancer.

Here are some signs to look out for:

⚠️ Walls or surfaces covered in soot

⚠️ A smoky haze present when diesel engines are used

⚠️ Blue or black smoke coming from diesel engines.

DEE contains a mixture of gases and soot. Because soot particles are so small, they can easily get deep into the lungs and cause a range of short- and long-term health problems, including cancer.

Risk depends on many factors — including the number, age and size of the engines — as well as the ventilation in the workspace where they are being used.

All workers deserve protection from DEE. New research shows that 3.95 million Australians are exposed to it at work, so preventing exposure needs to be a priority.

Relay For Life has crossed the finish line for 2026, hanging up its sneakers after another incredible season of fundraising, remembrance and community spirit. 👟

The year wrapped up with two standout events across two weekends, as the South Burnett and Gold Coast communities came together to celebrate, remember and fight back against cancer.

🏃 South Burnett Relay For Life proved that big hearts can achieve incredible things. The small but mighty community raised more than $188,000, smashing its $150,000 goal and securing a place in the top five fundraisers nationally. With 174 participants across 22 teams, the event marked the region's first overnight Relay since 2019, with supporters walking through an astonishing 19-hour event from Saturday afternoon through to Sunday morning.

🏃 Gold Coast Relay For Life brought together 641 participants across 49 teams and raised more than $101,000, exceeding its fundraising target of $100,000. From the opening ceremony through to the final lap, the event showcased the power of community, with participants uniting to honour loved ones, celebrate survivors and support those affected by cancer.

To every participant, volunteer, donor and supporter, thank you for making the 2026 Relay For Life season one to remember. Every lap walked and every dollar raised helps fund vital cancer research, prevention programs and support services. 💜

Breast cancer doesn't always have symptoms which is why it's important to check your breasts for any changes.

You should see your doctor if you notice:

🩷 A lump, lumpiness or thickening, especially in just one breast

🩷 A change in the size or shape of the breast or swelling

🩷 Any changes to the ni**le

🩷 A change in the skin such as dimpling or indentation, a rash or itchiness, scaly appearance, unusual redness or other colour changes

🩷 Swelling or discomfort in the armpit or near the collarbone

🩷 Ongoing, unusual breast pain not related to your period

Over 50? BreastScreen Queensland recommends a free mammogram every two years.

Aged 40 to 50? You can also book a free mammogram but speak to your doctor first.

Early detection really can make a difference.

"I thought there was no better way to show up for others and hopefully prove that it's never too late to fight than by being involved in Relay For Life." 💜

Meet Hollie Lockery, the face of this year’s Gold Coast Relay For Life. After being diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer earlier this year, Hollie is turning her focus to supporting others affected by cancer.

"We'd just like to raise as much money as possible, so that Queensland families like mine know they don't have to go through this alone."

Join us on October 17, from 2-11pm, at the Gold Coast Relay For Life as we celebrate survivors, remember loved ones and raise vital funds for cancer research and support.
