The future of classroom listening 🎧

This year’s World Hearing Day theme from the World Health Organization is
“From communities to classrooms: hearing care for all children.”

Clear sound supports focus, learning, and confidence in the classroom.

At Audeara, we believe broadcast audio can help shape the future of how students listen and learn.

Have you ever spoken to your child about hearing loss?

The World Health Organization has shared simple ways children can support friends with hearing loss in the classroom.

You could talk to your child about:
🗣 Taking turns when talking so everyone can follow the conversation
🙂 Facing their friend when speaking so they can see expressions
🤝 Including them in games and group activities
🔧 Telling an adult if a hearing device is not working
💛 Never teasing or making jokes about hearing loss

Small conversations at home can shape how children show up for each other at school.

At Audeara, we believe clear sound supports confident learners, but inclusion and understanding matter just as much.

Because when children feel heard, they feel connected.

The earlier you catch the signs, the sooner you can support them.

Listening shapes how children learn, participate and feel connected in the classroom. When clarity is inconsistent, confidence can quietly dip with it.

The good news? Early action makes a real difference.

That might mean booking a hearing check.
It might mean looking more closely at the listening environment itself.

Small changes, made early, can change how a child experiences school.

Clearer sound supports confident learners.

Same noise. Stronger signal. That’s signal to noise ratio.

When a voice is delivered more directly, it becomes easier to understand even in busy environments.

A classroom is rarely quiet…

🪑 Chairs scrape
🌬️ Air-cons hum
💬 Voices overlap

And in the middle of it all, the teacher’s voice has to cut through the noise.

Not every child catches every word.

The World Health Organization reports:
• ~90 million children aged 5-19 live with hearing loss
• Over 60% of childhood hearing loss can be prevented

But listening challenges don’t always look like hearing loss.

In noisy classrooms, clarity can slip.
And when clarity slips, confidence can too.

This week, we’re exploring what listening really means for learning and what can be done to support it.

Hearing and brain health are deeply connected.

Many people living with dementia also experience hearing or vision loss, but because dementia can mask the symptoms, these issues often go unnoticed. When hearing loss isn’t identified or managed, it can make communication harder, increase confusion, and impact quality of life.

We’ve been supporting the SenseCog Recruitment sessions at Bolton Clarke, where researchers are exploring the links between hearing and vision care and people living with dementia. To make the event accessible, we provided some of our assistive listening technology to help the residents to hear the session with clarity.

The connection between hearing loss and dementia is too important to ignore. Early action makes all the difference.

03/03/2025

Signs of hearing loss can be easy to ignore. But waiting to do something about it can make it harder to feel connected, impact your brain health, and even increase your risk of dementia.

Most people wait 7 years before taking action. Don’t be one of them.

Take control of your hearing today and find a hearing clinic near you.
