Most facilities don't fully add up the cost of fluorescent lighting until they've already switched.

Nu Image Surgical and Dental Implant Center operates five locations across North Carolina. For a decade, their surgery rooms ran on fluorescent troffers, bulbs that failed on staggered schedules, buzzed audibly during procedures, risked mercury exposure if broken, and required warm-up time before reaching full brightness.

After installing LEDtronics LED Flat Panel Lights, the team noticed the expected improvements in light quality. What surprised them was everything else: no replacements since installation, reduced room temperatures, immediate energy savings, and the complete absence of RF interference that fluorescent fixtures can introduce near medical equipment.

Powering Sustainability Through Smarter Industrial Lighting

When critical infrastructure facilities look to reduce energy use and modernize operations, lighting can play a bigger role than many expect.

At Union Sanitary District in Union City, California, LEDtronics worked alongside the facility to explore energy-efficient lighting upgrades across its wastewater treatment plant as part of a broader sustainability initiative.

Following a site survey, LEDtronics recommended multiple LED retrofit solutions to replace traditional HID and fluorescent lighting in key operational areas, including:

- LED Wall Packs replacing high-wattage HPS fixtures
- LED T8 Tube Lights for pump room environments
- T8 Multilamp Fixtures for improved indoor work area illumination

Initial testing focused on three critical locations within the facility, including the Alvarado Pump Station and Main Distribution Building, helping evaluate performance, efficiency, and long-term operational benefits before larger implementation.

This initiative supported Union Sanitary District’s long-term goals of reducing energy consumption, lowering environmental impact, and improving facility efficiency as part of its broader sustainability strategy.

LEDs can work in reverse as light sensors and micro solar cells. When connected in reverse bias, opposite to how it normally emits. An LED operates in "solar cell mode," generating its own current and voltage from incoming light.

It works as a narrow-band photodetector, and is actually most sensitive to wavelengths slightly shorter than what it emits
