🎶🕊️Soooo Yesterday, I learned of the passing of the legendary Peabo Bryson. 😢😢

As an employee at the Bergen Performing Arts Center (BergenPAC) in Englewood NJ, and one of the unexpected blessings of the job has been the opportunity to see incredible artists perform and, occasionally, meet them.

I was fortunate enough to hear Mr. Bryson perform live and take this photo with him. There’s actually a funny story behind this picture. He shared a genuine laugh with us that night, and what started as a simple moment became a cherished memory.

What stood out most wasn’t that he was Peabo Bryson. It was how warm and friendly he was. In that moment, it didn’t matter who he was or who we were. He greeted us with the kind of sincerity that made it feel as though we’d known each other before. No pretense. No distance. Just a heartfelt laugh, a hug, and a photo that he offered without anyone asking.

His music touched generations, and his voice was one of those voices you instantly recognized. His songs became part of people’s love stories, celebrations, and lifelong memories.

I’m grateful I had the chance to witness a small part of his legacy in person.

Rest peacefully, Mr. Bryson. Thank you for sharing your gift with the world. ❤️🎶

Somewhere between “eat what yuh want” and “live on lettuce leaves,like ah goat” I’m finding my lane 😅🇹🇹💛

This morning was simple:
half an everything bagel with smoked salmon cream cheese, 1 boiled egg, 2 strips air fried turkey bacon, and some hot Milo with a scoop of coffee.

Nothing trendy.
No dramatic detox.
No punishment.

Just real food. Real flavor. Real intention.

Lately, life has forced me to start back paying attention to my body in ways I honestly wish I didn’t have to.

Finding out the cartilage in my knees are severely worn down was one of those “well… alright then” moments.

So this season isn’t about chasing magic fixes, starving myself, or pretending the foods I grew up loving are suddenly the enemy.

Because let’s be honest…
I didn’t grow up on bland sadness and grass, that’s what we fed the animals in Trinidad.

I grew up with soup (or as the Cubans call it “Sancocho”) on the stove.
Green seasoning in old containers.
Bush tea for just about everything.
Home cooking made with love, instinct, and “taste this and tell me what it needs” conversation in de kitchen.

But somewhere between working hard, being tired, stress, convenience foods, and putting everything else first… I drifted.

Not blaming myself.
Just telling the truth.

Now?
I’m choosing differently.

Not perfectly.
Differently.

More homemade meals again.
More intentional choices.
More herbs like in my childhood.
More nourishment like I know how.
Less autopilot.

And yes, I’ll still eat out… from time to time..
but in this economy?
That meal better pass my taste buds and my wallet inspection.

This isn’t about getting skinny.

It’s about getting stronger.
Supporting my joints.
Losing what my body doesn’t need carrying.
Building a life where I can move well, feel good, and still enjoy the flavors I love.

Not medical advice.

Just sharing my own wake-up call 💛

One meal.
One cup.
One better decision at a time.
