Amplifying girls’ voices while advocating for their access to education has been a daily commitment through our non-profit, Chocolate University, since the start of Askinosie Chocolate nearly two decades ago. And to honor International Day of the Girl this Sunday, October 11, we’re sharing a few stories from the most recent CU High School Immersion program students who traveled with our team to Tanzania and helped lead community projects benefiting the rural area cocoa farming communities.

One such initiative was the launch of classroom resources at the Nkeso School, a vibrant preschool founded in 2018 by the Mababu CCF, now in its sixth year of classes providing necessary early childhood education that was previously unavailable in the area, and an important resource for girl children, especially.

The impact of this project expands far beyond the 30+ tangible lessons or the bright colors of a sidewalk game. It’s about partnership. Students from southwest Missouri working hand-in-hand with teachers in Tanzania to create sustainable, practical tools for learning.

For some of the CU travelers, the experience was truly life-shaping. One student, Vanessa, returned home more committed than ever to pursue her future career in early childhood education. She is now exploring opportunities to travel back and serve surrounding village schools. Her journey is a reminder that our program doesn’t only impact the communities we partner with, it also transforms the hearts and futures of our Chocolate University travelers as well.
