Our mission is to bring together the finest artists and crafters from the local region and provide a quality handmade market that will benefit both our customers and the community. The Shepherdstown Community Club (SCC) supports many civic events, cultural activities, and social gatherings as well as public facilities such as the War Memorial Building and Morgan Grove Park. Kathy and Syble, from Happy Cat Stained Glass, never fail to surprise with gorgeous new stained-glass panels, suncatchers, ornaments, candle shields and other decorative and useful items. Stained glass placed in a window can transform and brighten a room with dazzling colors and can also add a bit of privacy without sacrificing light. These two fun gals who share a love of color and light, and cats of course, joined together and founded Happy Cat Stained Glass and they've been creating like mad ever since. You'll find a lot of lovely pieces to choose from this weekend. They also do commission/custom order work and repairs. Stop by and see what they brought. Inge, from The Cottage of Herbs, will have a wonderful selection of herb, dip, soup and sauce mixes, infused vinegars, teas, gift baskets and a whole lot more. Her specialty foods make any meal more fragrant and delicious, and they are as perfect for every-day meals as they are for holiday gatherings. Inge grows all of the herbs she uses in her own Shepherdstown garden. Stop by this weekend and stock up on specialty gourmet foods. She also offers free samples and easy recipe tips! Get ready!!! The SCC 1st Weekend Handmade Market will return again, next weekend, May 30-31, in lieu of our regularly scheduled June show. Same name, new weekend due to the rescheduling of the Shepherdstown Street Fest. Join us as artists, artisans and crafters will be filling the room to the brim with quality handmade items.
At the this May Handmade Market, you will find all manner of handmade goodness! You will find beautifully crafted wooden boxes with attitude; intricately crocheted clothing and accessories; gourmet vinegars and oils, teas and herb blends; expertly caned, and reseated chairs; stained-glass panels, candle holders, suncatchers and ornaments.
All work is original and made by the artists, ask them how they do what they do! With such a diverse group of artists, you are sure to find something you cannot live without! Stay tuned as we highlight the artists in daily posts this week.
We will be open, downstairs in the War Memorial Building, Saturday (10am-6pm) and Sunday (9am-4pm). The SCC 1st Weekend Handmade Market is part juried arts and craft show and part trendy pop-up shop! For added fun and shopping on Sunday, the Shepherdstown Farmers Market will have plenty of farm fresh food vendors, delicious breads, handmade chocolates and cheeses, plants and florals, herbs, and spices, and yes, even music! They will be open directly behind the War Memorial Building on King St. from 9am-1pm. Do stop and check out all the wonderful shops, boutiques, and eateries in our wonderful little town...there really is something for everyone!
