If you’ve ever been to one of our book clubs, chances are high you’ve crossed paths with this gem of a human being. Dylan has been facilitating our fantasy book club “Book Wyrms” since the Spring and his broad range of book selections within the genre has been invigorating!

Mark your calendars and come join us for tales of the fantastical!

Again, we are so honored to be able to participate in this endeavor!

This week I'd like to recognize Four Seasons Books in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. Since 1991, they've been doing far more than selling books. They've built a place where readers gather, authors visit, book clubs meet, and conversations begin. Their belief that strong communities are built on shared stories is exactly why independent bookstores matter. I'm grateful they've become part of One Book. Fifty States. One Tribute. If you're ever in Shepherdstown, I hope you'll stop in, browse the shelves, and support a bookstore that's been enriching its community for more than three decades.

Out of our 165 google reviews in the past 14 years, only a handful have been under 4 stars.

Many of you remember our infamous “Too much leftish propaganda” 1 star review from a few years ago. We claimed it proudly and threw it on t-shirts, art prints, and coffee mugs.

Yesterday, we got a 3 star review that hit a very similar cord…

“Cute book store but the rainbow flags didn’t add much to the appeal.”

We will agree to disagree. 😏 We aren’t going to be for everyone, but know we are exactly who we need to be for ourselves and our community.

What do y’all think? Should we put this one on a shirt too?

We are thrilled to announce our participation in the 50 Books in 50 States project to honor the life of Beth Hall, a lifelong supporter of independent bookstores who believed they were among the most important places in a community.

She died before she was able to see her son’s book, “Controlled Chaos: Lessons They Didn’t Teach You in Teacher School” published. As part of his mother’s legacy, Eric Hall has made it his goal to intentionally support independent bookstores with his book launch by having “Controlled Chaos” and sold in all US states.

He told us that when he was considering what store he wanted to represent West Virginia, Four Seasons Books “immediately came to mind as the natural choice,” particularly because of our “longstanding commitment to readers, authors, local literature, and community.”

We are so grateful that people near and far resonate with our values and wish Eric all the best with his book release on July 9th. Be sure to let us know if you want to be a part of this endeavor yourself and we’d be happy to secure you a copy.

Our Feminist Rage book club had such an incredible discussion with Savala Nolan about her book “Good Woman.” She was so generous with her time and encouraged everyone to start writing and sharing their own voices and stories.

Her book is a heartbreaking and enraging collection of essays about the societal expectations about womanhood. She weaves history, exploration, and personal reflection beautifully, connecting with you as the reader as if she’s speaking directly to a dear friend.

Be sure to keep an eye out for future author events and/or author visits for book clubs!

As a small, independently owned bookstore, we love to support our local, Appalachian Authors however we can. If you came to Shepherdstown StreetFest a few weeks ago, hopefully you got the chance to meet a few of them at our Author Fair, but if you missed them, we always have quite a selection to choose from.

We are always open to partnering with community folks who align with our values so if you are a local author or creative who is interested in being featured at the store, we'd love to talk with you about doing an author pop-up. You can find more information on our website under "Events & Signings."
