During the last week of this month, July 29th to the 31st, we're going to be saying one of our least favorite funny phrases an awful lot:

"Dave's not here."

That's because he and Margaret will be taking a very well-deserved vacation.

The store will be open our normal hours, in the capable hands of Rob Robson, Stutzman's trusty right hand man in retail.

But if you have specific questions about the neck angle of your 1917 Gibson Mastertone banjo, or you want to discuss the finer points of fishing on Honeoye Lake, the last week of July is not the week for you. Because:

"DAVE'S NOT HERE."

When Leo Fender sold his pioneering musical instrument company in 1965 for $13 million, (equivalent to almost $140 million today), he could've just sailed off into the sunset and retired.

He could've taken some guitar lessons, seeing as how he didn't play a single musical instruments his entire life.

But he didn't. When he sold his manufacturing business to CBS,  a business that had built the most iconic guitars, basses and amplifiers in the world for rock, jazz and blues musicians for 30 years, he kept all the machinery. He kept all the templates. He kept all the jigs. He kept all the schematics.

Then he improved upon them, hired skilled craftsman and started making instruments under the name of Music Man and G&L, the initials of George Fullerton, his partner, and Leo Fender.

This 2017 G&L S-500 was custom ordered, as all S-500 custom guitars are, from Fullerton California, and it was delivered exactly as described on the included spec sheet.

You should come in and try it out. You may have never played a guitar like this before.

Sometimes, when you have to get the low end just right, it has to be a Hamer.

This barely used fretless jazz-style bass, made in the USA, is just that sort of instrument. When you pick it up, you know you've got a good one.

This powerful little 1920s tenor banjo is a 17 fret survivor style D from one of the oldest instrument makers in the world, the Washburn company.

Many tenor banjos had their necks removed and thrown out, replaced by the more popular five string necks during the Bluegrass explosion of the 40s to the 70s. 

We happen to have a few of those removed necks that we saved over the years, some from the 20s and 30s, all very high-quality Gibson products.
