Shane Confectionery, America's Oldest Continuously Operating Confectionery (since 1863).

Shane Confectionery is the oldest continuously-run confectionery in the United States, established in 1863. The Shane family took over the business in 1911, installing elaborately carved woodwork, stained glass and curved windows to showcase the chocolates and confections made onsite. Ninety-nine years later, in 2010, the business transitioned to the Berley Brothers who own the nearby Franklin Fou

ntain and whom embarked on a meticulous restoration of the building and business. Candies continue to be made on-site, with an emphasis on locally-sourced ingredients, seasonal specialties and old-fashioned quality. We have been closed for in-person shopping since late March 2020 to protect our co-workers and customers from the spread of COVID-19. Orders can still be placed on our web-store (ShaneCandies.com/Shop) for delivery or pick-up. Since Oct. 2nd, 2020 we've been operating Take-Out window from our shopfront in addition.

Passionfruit caramels are tart & bright liquid caramel cooked with passionfruit, inside a crisp dark chocolate shell. 🍊🍫 According to the food historians, caramelization was first practiced in France in the 17th century. 🇫🇷 However, caramels as we know them today began in the 18th century and are related to toffee. 🍯

Making chocolate requires winnowing the husk from the cocoa nib. Cocoa husks make a wonderful addition to a garden! They can be an attractive mulch, or mixed in to the soil providing nutrients, like nitrogen, phosphate and potash. For just $3 you can buy a tub of cocoa husk, in recycled peanut butter containers. 🌱♻️ Just watch out for dogs, cocoa husks, like chocolate, isn't good for them.
