If August 2019 me and August 2026 me sat together in the same room, they’d never believe each other.

Seven years. Three moves. So many pivots, lessons, risks and seasons of figuring it out as I went.

Different homes + cities, different chapters, different versions of me.

How wild to think back on how every move and every change shaped what came next.

First day of school, but I promised I wouldn’t share this morning’s backpack photos. So here’s a little throwback instead.

Thirteen years ago, we read this Sesame Street book before her first day of preschool, sitting on a striped rug.

A good stripe never goes out of style, and thankfully today’s performance rugs make living with one so much easier.

That one time I got to work in a federal judge’s chambers.

This project was less about making everything new and more about creating order among pieces that already carried meaning.

Certificates, bookcases, memorabilia, artwork, furniture and years of collected history all needed to feel connected rather than crowded.

The trout watercolors brought in personality and color, but the real work was in the spacing, scale and relationship between everything in the room.

The judge’s message afterward made me smile:

“Could have been chaos, but reads as very orderly and relational and proportionate.”

That is often the part of design people do not see. It is not simply choosing beautiful things. It is knowing how to make very different pieces belong together.
