So, I took a little hiatus, went camping, which entailed a day of snow and a dog that got bored, so we came home early. I was actually having a lovely time. My ankle still hurts, so that has slowed me down a bit also.

Anyway, here is what l made this week:

I never pour this early. I have all summer! And then I thought, why not, I can squeeze it in between throwing the ball for the little tyrant in the first pic and other chores, errands, appointments, and fun (camping in a week, woot woot). And then that will take some of the pressure off my already filling up summer schedule.

Also, these jars are new to me this year, so I wanted to get acquainted. Same volume as my previous selection, just more cylindrical. And I’m keeping the wood lids instead of swapping for metal to keep costs down. Otherwise I’d have to raise the price this year.

I’ve only poured 17 because I had wax left in the melter from last season. The husband has to drag the 55 pound boxes in for me, and I keep forgetting to ask 🤣.

Sneak peek!

This icky weather is the perfect time to do prep. I pour when the weather is nicer, but still have plenty of free time for summer fun if I do what I can now. Prep includes cleaning (the outside), decorating, cleaning (the inside), labeling, and wicking. There’s a lot more steps, but at this point, the “hard work” is done.

I have had a steady increase in people asking if I use “essential oils” to scent my candies. No. I think it comes from a new generation of makers who don’t bother with any due diligence and just jump on the bandwagon. They have far more resources at their fingertips than I had circa 1996. I was still ordering supplies over the telephone and taking classes in person instead of watching (sometimes very mis-informative) YouTube videos and asking redundant questions in candle maker groups answered by other inexperienced makers.

Anyway, I saw another maker ask how best to answer that question at markets, and I realized I don’t want to answer that anymore when I’m busy and focused so I am going to print this out, laminate it, and hand it to whoever asks (link due to formatting):

Hello! I’ve been meaning to post one last box of clearance candles but life gets in the way. Last week I had eye surgery 🥳 and recovery is 4-12 weeks. No big deal, worth the wait, but yesterday my big Aussie Piper had surgery to remove a cancerous tumor, so we’re in recovery mode. Fortunately, she’s doing great! Resting, eating a bit, enjoying her medication 😆. The incision is in her armpit, so not an ideal location but she’s being a good patient.
