Some pieces are worth the extra effort.
This antique marble-top cabinet caught my eye immediately, not just for the marble, but for the many useful ways this piece could be used. While most pieces from this era tend to feature blue, brown, or plain white tile, this one has a soft green botanical pattern making it feel especially unusual.
The vintage hardware from the mid-century wasn’t doing the piece any favors, so I replaced it with timeless solid brass hardware from Yester Home that better complements the age and character of the cabinet. The wood was carefully cleaned and nourished with tung oil, then finished with Renaissance Wax to bring out the richness of the grain while preserving its authentic patina. The marble received the same careful attention. Lastly, for a little whimsy, added removable drawer/cabinet liners.
Dating to approximately 1895–1915, it’s the kind of piece that can begin a second life as a coffee bar, wet bar, bathroom storage, kitchen accent cabinet, or entryway statement piece.
One of my favorite transformations this year.
