For those of you wondering, this is where the “ish” in our hours started….
May 30, 2011 I was hungover (I know you are all shocked), and that day was the very first time I used “ish” for closing time.

Well, as we roll into Memorial Day Weekend, that means a few things here at the Wampum.

We are now open 7 days a week from 10am - 6ish!!!!!

And second, but more importantly (at least to me)…..
The first of our milestones birthdays at the Wampum Shop is happening on Saturday May 23…..MINE!!!

That’s right, I am turning 50 this weekend!! While I don’t have any shenanigans planned (at least none that I am willing to put on record, lol 😉), I would love to see you all and I will be giving out free stuff to anyone who sings to me on my birthday!!!
Can’t wait to see everyone back up north to kick off our summer season!!

Guess who is hiring???

WE ARE!!!!

We are looking for part time seasonal help at the Wampum Shop.
We offer flexible scheduling & competitive wages, along with a great employee discount in a fast paced and fun environment.
We are looking for people ages 16-??? who are able bodied (there is some lifting involved and long days on your feet on concrete), can stay off your phone for more than 30 minutes, & works well with others.

Duties will include a bit of everything, from working a register and checking out customers, pricing and displaying new products, restocking, light cleaning and FRIENDLY customer interaction.
We need people who are looking to work 3-5 days a week, and able to work through at least end of august, but preferably through mid-October (we can be flexible on the October part).

WE ARE BACK!!!

After a much needed break, I am happy to say we are getting back into the swing of things and open again!!
For the rest of April, we will be open Thursday, Friday & Saturday 10-5ish. Once we hit May, we will be back to 6 days a week, but til then, we are still easing back into the routine.

I will also be updating you all on what is happening at the shop, what’s new, what’s exciting, what is weirding me out and what we are up to!
Stay tuned, there is some fun things on the horizon (including a couple of milestone Wampum Birthdays for Dave & Sarah this year that we will be celebrating in style).
Spring is in the air and we are ready to dive into year 76 at the Wampum.

With the weather forecast calling for insanely cold temps, we have decided to be closed on Friday for everyone’s safety.
Stay home, stay warm and check on anyone who needs a bit of extra help.

And just like that, 2025 is over.

What a ride our 75th year in business was. So many wonderful memories shared and made this last year. So many familiar faces, and tons of new ones.

My first “thank you” goes out to my staff.
I am so very lucky to be surrounded by amazing women who make going to work a joy. Not only are these ladies hard working, there is something to be said about enjoying the people that you work with that makes all the difference in the world. Without these amazing women, the Wampum wouldn’t be what it is. Thank you all for being awesome and putting up with me and all my crazy idea (I’ve been thinking….😂)

Next, YOU, our customers!!!
You continue to make us part of your northwoods traditions, year after year, decade after decade and generation after generation. The love you all show for this business is amazing and humbling. I am so very grateful to each and every one of you and so very happy to be able to do what I do for the absolute best customers!!!

Last, but definitely not least, dad.
My father is the behind the scenes rock that keeps this place rolling. He has taught me what I needed to know to be able to contiunue the amazing tradition that is The Wampum Shop. He is the best mentor a person could ask for, and the best father anyone could have.

Happy New Year to you all, both near and far.
2026 will bring a few more changes, but hey, we know I like to keep things interesting.
2026 will bring more shenanigans, more laughter and more memories!!!

I have decided that we are taking a snow day and will be closed today at the Wampum.
