Go beyond… size up can’t just be wood or metal frame. There are different types of wood frames and specifically the stops. A two piece nail on stop will fail differently than a routed or rabbited jam. One breaks and one crumbles. The two piece you can remove and get out of the way, the one piece you have to work around. Anticipate the failure during size up. Stick with ABCD. Start with the Adz, you might get it, if not straight to plan B. You can use and wedge, fork or baseball swing. Thank you for the photos!

Something to chew on… here is the gap you can achieve with the Adz incrementally. What does it mean and what is missing. This doesn’t take into account the flex(deflection) or stiffness of a door. If the jam or lock has not failed most doors will not push straight backwards but will bend or pivot from the point of the nearest locking mechanism. A note about capturing, if you are using a wedge, fork or axe inline you would need a gap of 1.8” to catch the back of the frame. If you capture veritcally you only need 1.5” (Halligan at 45 degrees). It is ideal to get the full gap of your adz however this is valuable if needed.
