I made some Star Wars themed desktop speakers for Nevin. I turned some old useless Advent home theatre satellite speaker upside down and placed a high end Tang Band off axis full range driver where the woofer was and installed a perfectly tuned base port where the tweeter was. I went with Millennium Falcon gray and threw on some decals depicting the iconic scene of the destruction of the Death-star.
They sound extremely clear, with heavy base for the size and he loves them. He runs them with the Fosi BT20A pro Bluetooth amplifier hooked to his gaming system.
These are not for sale, but I can make one more pair to order. Same sound signature, but your color/theme of choice.($500)

I built myself a bass guitar speaker cabinet out of an old house stereo speaker. I paired it with the 200 watt Ampeg Micro VR for that vintage sound. The cabinet is loaded with the beefy 10” Celestion Pulse XL driver with a 3” port and a decent amount of internal dampening. It can be placed vertically for better sound dispersion or horizontally for extra bottom end. It’s only 22” x 12” and sounds like it should take up way more space than it does. It’s a beast!!!!!🥰

Success!
I sold the Electro Voice Interface II to a man that has wanted them since the eighties when he heard a demo of them at the store. He said the salesman turned them up so loud he couldn’t believe they weren’t distorting. He did the same while he listened to mine. He played Van Halen “Really got me” so loud I cringed, but my restoration kept up and rocked the sh*te out of that song. He bought them and loved that they looked even better than originals with the new blue wood grain vinyl. Another set saved from the trash!!! Yay for JMod!

I’m excited to be restoring a pair of the iconic Yamaha NS-10M’s. These guys have been rode hard and hung wet. They’ve been dropped, gouged, and driven so hard they almost caught fire.
Have you heard the story of the recording engineer that put 1 square of toilet paper over the tweeter leading to that paractice becoming an industry standard? He even inspired yamaha to tame the high end on the next series.
Bob Clearmountain was his name. He famously used Yamaha NS-10M monitors as his primary reference speakers on a vast number of hit albums in the 1980s and 1990s. He is often credited with popularizing their use as studio monitors because if a mix sounded good on them, it would sound good on almost any hi-fi system.
While he has mixed hundreds of albums, some of the most notable albums he mixed using the NS-10Ms include:

Bruce Springsteen – Born in the U.S.A.
The Rolling Stones – Tattoo You and Still Life
Roxy Music – Avalon and Flesh + Blood
David Bowie – Let's Dance
Bryan Adams – Reckless and Cuts Like a Knife
Hall & Oates – Big Bam Boom and Picture This
Chic – C'est Chic, Risqué, and Real People
Simple Minds – Once Upon a Time
The Pretenders – Get Close
Huey Lewis & the News – Sports
Bon Jovi – Slippery When Wet

He often carried his personal pair of NS-10Ms from studio to studio to ensure a consistent listening reference, a practice that helped establish them as a studio standard. Clearmountain even resorted to placing tissue paper over the tweeters of early models to tame their harsh high-end, a modification that led to Yamaha producing a slightly less bright "Studio" version.
The model I’m restoring is the studio version.

Introducing the “Jolene” powered Bluetooth speaker just in time for Christmas.
Mixing classic vintage sound with modern convenience. This is perfect for the minimalist; someone who loves music, but dislikes stereo wires and battery chargers. Just plug it into the wall outlet, turn it on, connect, and stream your favorite music.
The sides are made from gorgeous live edge Purple Heart Juniper. For the grill I chose an Oxblood with gold stripe just like the Fender guitar amps from the 60’s.
She sounds crisp and clear, gets loud if you want her too, and digs deep with the new woofer and re-tuned port.
This was originally a JBL J 216 from the 80’s, but with only about 15% of the original components, and now modified with power and Bluetooth it is truly a JMod creation.

!!SOLD!!
Fully restored pair of 1970’s Electro Voice Interface 2 series 2 studio monitors available for purchase. They were picked up from the University of Texas surplus in really bad shape.
I flushed the attenuator, rebuilt the crossovers to spec but with much better components, added cabinet bracing, refoamed the 10” passive radiator and replaced the mid-bass driver with the closest sound matching modern day driver I could find. I put the original cabinet stuffing back in, and also found replacement tweeter foam surrounds. Electro Voice no longer makes them, so shout out to
https://openearaudio.com/ in Australia for making these foam replacements.
I also removed the sticky brown vinyl and the brown grill cloth and replaced them with a dark blue faux wood textured vinyl and a waffle textured, black grill cover…My wife described them as “Pimp”, which I loved, but I’m not sure it was meant as a compliment…..😁
They sound amazing and look fabulous! They have that uber clear studio monitor sound, but with an amazing low end.
The original specs are below, and though I’ve made a few changes I would expect the specs to remain the same. Thanks for looking!

What is inside a speaker, and what does a full restoration include?
When restoring a speaker you have 4 areas of work. Cosmetic, electronic, the drivers, and the cabinets structural integrity.
A full restoration can be all original, or modified with more modern components. I enjoy the latter. Speaker designers of mass produced name brand speakers are limited on budget, parts, and cosmetic finishing to create a good sounding competitively priced product and are often forced to use cheap components. We have had many advances in all categories over the years so why not take advantage of them? If used correctly they can make an even better sounding, nicer, longer lasting speaker while using the original canvas as the medium itself.
These speakers most likely did not originally come in your favorite finish, but a custom restoration can make them anything you can imagine.

What’s even inside a speaker?
Most speakers have some type of fiberglass, cotton, or poly fill stuffing to shape the sound, but most importantly the crossover network is in there. I like to call the crossover network the choir conductor. It tells which driver to sing which parts. The soprano, alto, tennor and base parts. Without the choir director the tweeters would blow trying to play the base, and all the voices would be jumbled together while the choir sings all the wrong parts.

All these components wear out, the choir gets confused, the cabinet gets scuffed, the drivers rot out and the speakers find themselves lost, not listened too in the back of closets, re-sale shops, flea markets and eventually the land fill…….So, bring them to me, let’s refinish them in your favorite color and get them singing again!

University of TX surplus gold!!
Electro Voice- Interface 2 -series 2 -studio monitors. These speakers were introduced in 1977 when I was 3 years old and have a great reputation.
These are studio monitors and as such I assume they were in the mix down/editing room of the audio engineer department at UT. These things are so sticky it’s gross!! They were still smoking ci******es in doors in 1977, and probably some w**d while they recorded and edited, so I’m assuming it’s residue from years of smoke exposure! Lol
