Yellow-rumped & Black and White Warblers!! πŸ’›πŸ€πŸ–€

"North America hosts over 50 species of "New World" wood-warblers. While many are famous for their vibrant splashes of bright yellow, orange, and blue, others are subtly patterned, like the Black-and-white Warbler. Because they are constantly flitting high up in the canopy, finding them can challenge even the most experienced birders, often causing a sore neck affectionately known as "warbler neck""

This beautiful Scarlet Tanager blessed us with his presence last week with a very brief visit to our back deck! I was able to open the door and snap a couple shots before he flew off: 🀩

Beautiful Females!! 😍

The color difference between male and female birds is known as "sexual dimorphism", and usually results in a dull, more drab appearance for females.
This is usually because female birds sitting on a nest are incredibly vulnerable. If a mother bird was as brightly colored like her mate, she could attract predators to her eggs or nestlings. Drab, earthy tones allow her to essentially disappear into the foliage.

That doesn't mean they aren't beautiful! πŸ₯°

Here are a few of our favorite female visitors from this past month: πŸ‘€

Bees and Butterflies! πŸ€©πŸπŸ¦‹

We noticed our first Bumblebee and Butterfly visitors to our garden last weekend! The Bumblebee was loving the Bee Balm, and the Butterfly (a Red-Spotted Purple) took some sips from an orange half that was out for the Orioles! πŸ˜‹
