Several residents reported spotting what appeared to be dozens of snakes tangled together in an open field near Skiatook this week.

Wildlife experts say the unusual sight may have been a “snake mating ball,” a real phenomenon that occurs during breeding season.

Witnesses described the mass as slowly moving through the grass as a single unit.
