With hand drawn and painted artwork by our resident surf artist Matthew Allen, these tees are inspired by living and surfing in Southern California. Since 2001, Thalia Surf Shop has worked closely with artists to help shape our aesthetic, while connecting them to our customers. Other businesses are cutting corners and abandoning their roots, but we are committed to working with the talented artists, surfers, and shapers in our community. We got a few new surf history books in the shop recently! The author of this book, ‘Good things love water’, Chris Ahrens stopped by to hand deliver this books himself, and we got to chat him up about his life of writing about surfing stories, and some incredible connections to surfings past! The origin of the surfing competition jacket can be traced back to the late 1950’s and early 1960’s, when area surf club members would don jackets featuring club emblems and surfer names. These jackets acted as a sort of uniform on competition days. Surfers would throw the jackets on to ward off the cold on crisp mornings, and to chase the chill after exiting the water.
The comp jacket has become a regular part of our wardrobe, and a key part of our cold weather offering. This season’s Comp II jacket arrives in a new navy color way with 2 white racing stripes emblazoned across the chest. In 1969 Rick Griffin moved his family back to Southern California to work on the poster art for John Severson’s last surf movie, Pacific Vibrations. The poster was colorful, beautiful, and full of the miracle of life. Completed just after Rick delivered his own daughter, and in true bohemian fashion, cut the umbilical cord with his buck knife!
This image is the original artwork for the Pacific Vibrations movie poster and it is now available on a tee, screen printed in full color by our good friends over at Forward Screenprinting!

Tyler Warren surfboards.
We just received 3 new surfboards from Tyler Warren, including a 7’5” girlfriend single fin, with some detailed glue lines and opaque resin tinting, a 9’6” Transition single fin log in glossy red, and a 9’7” green resin tinted log. These boards feature concave to vee contours that facilitate optimized speed, maneuverability, and stability.
Tyler recently launched his own fin templates with True Ames, and we have a variety of these finely foiled fins in our shop!
