June tastes like mango on the island.

When you eat one fresh off the tree—there is nothing polite about it. The bounty of orange syrupy nectar quickly spreads to one’s hands, face, beard (where applicable) and surroundings…

…and if it doesn’t, you’re doing it wrong.

Barefoot, in the grass, wearing an old bathing suit under the shade of the mango tree is the very best way IMO

This beauty came out of the kiln over the weekend… A perfect collaboration with my wife, Miss Kelly .

Well known for her luscious botanical paintings, Kell has adorned one of my large vases with pigmented clay slip interpretations of the mango tree from our own backyard.

Feels like home (and I promise it’s not mango sticky).

This artwork is brand new to the Gallery and currently available.

Ping me here or give us a call for more details or to quote shipping.

Summer has arrived. Let’s celebrate.

Brand new from the kiln✨
this one, again, from a series I’ve been developing for a number of years based on graffiti walls.

Drawing things on, developing them in colored slip and glaze, then scratching them back off again… painting over it, crossing them out.

Little instances of playful profanity

robust expression.

Not as much about having some tag that is recognized all over the city, but more in tune with the layers of battle going on between the paint layers and scribbles… you get the picture. It ends up, producing all of these nice little moments of cultural texture… A few of which I have pictured here.

Spread that out over a little bit of sculptural pottery, bingo.

I do love making these, I get to flex all my counter culture love into one place…
And then walking around acting like I’m an artist 👨‍🎨

Hope you’ll like it too. This one, just arrived on the Gallery floor this morning.

Currently available, DM me here or call our Gallery for size and shipping información .

Peace peace peace peace

Spending some time with one of my favorite winged specimens—the finest little island aviary out here in the lab.

Haven’t visited this theme in a while, but they are some of my favorite thrown pottery sculptures to make.

These arnt glazed in their distinctive white body with brilliant red bill yet, but even so—

➡️Who can name the species?

And extra credit—

➡️Who knows what roll this bird played in ancient myth?

Play the game.. answer below ⬇️

Peace, love, thought

Today I feel like a—

Pottery monk, absorbing nonverbal lessons about self-mastery from a nonhuman teacher who prowls cat-like throughout my surroundings and pushes me into ostensibly unrelated situations that are ironically united in that they require the very same wordless discipline of taste and discernment that I have developed over years at the potters wheel…

like, I feel “prepared” or something.

It’s weird and cool.

Flicks from recently, have a magical Sunday

Classics never die.

Cobalt on Cream— washed out with the shiny glass finish.

It took me a long time to acquiesce to the timeless magnetic pull of this material combination.

Just seems too easy to make it feel boring and normal… like it’s dangerous in that way.

But with a little character play and a long afternoon with the underglaze, the materials all synergize and reveal the impromptu and slightly haphazard nature of the mark making. .. or the “brushy brushy quick hand” as I like to say.

Ive really grown to like it.

It’s like… a little street style in disguise.

Could fit right in at your Nana’s house, but when it draws you in… all the messy expressives are in there.

What do you think, fun to play in the cobalt and cream?

Or.. “stick to the color, Adam”?

Do tell..

So,
Key West Pottery, is a place.
In a cool old building,
with a real address,
Playing good music,
That you can visit and
Hang out in.

Key West Pottery is also a State of Mind that my sweetheart life collaborator and I invented from nothing as we ran away from the conventions of the ‘real world’ almost 20 years ago.

Even before it was called “Key West Pottery”, there was a crazy hard grinding artistic pirate runaway romance life potency that wouldn’t settle for anything less than pure freedom type of thing going on …that became the thesis for
Key West Pottery.

Sometimes I self indulgently ramble on about that (most important) aspect of Key West Pottery on these social media networks (It means a lot to me) and forget to mention to you that we have this bangin little Gallery that you should check out…
amongst the very very best in town… 16 years on

Then one of my team members gently reminds me that I should plug the spot, not just wax poetic.

So…
Key West Pottery is indeed, a place…
That you can visit,
Very far away from all the normal stuff.
On a pleasant island about 90 miles north of Havana.

We are open every day.

This is a glimpse of what it looks like here this morning.

Come visit me.
