Monte Carlo
2 dashes Angostura bitters
1 oz Benedictine
2 oz
I don’t always carry a flask, but when I do, I love carrying a handmade flask that we made. IMHO a unique, hand flask cries out for something out of the ordinary like a cocktail.
Yes I know, Old Granddad isn’t a rye whiskey, but it is a rye forward bourbon that punches way above its price point. I tend to look at all recipes as an outline that can be changed to suit your personal taste. When you make one for yourself, use your favorite.

Let’s make a fig cardamom vanilla simple syrup.
1 dozen figs quartered
2 cups water
2-3 cardamom pods
1 stick cinnamon
Simmer for 20 minutes, mash figs then add
2 cups sugar
Stir until completely dissolved
Remove from heat and add
1 tsp vanilla
Strain and store in refrigerator.

Bread Pudding
1/2 loaf French bread, 2 cups milk, 1 egg, 1 cup sugar, 1 tsp vanilla, 1/2 cup raisins (optional)

Rum Sauce
1 stick butter, 1 cup sugar, 1 egg, 2 oz spiced rum or bourbon.

It’s that time of year again! As we were leaving the theater, a young man wearing a lipstick V on his forehead summed it up nicely. He looked at me and said, “It’s like being on the outside of an inside joke.” As old and jaded as I am, Rocky Horror virgins still make me smile.
