Good books in good hands.

This month, we’re highlighting Lāʻau Hawaiʻi by Dr. Isabella Aiona Abbott, a foundational book that shares traditional Hawaiian uses of plants and the deep relationship between kānaka, ʻāina, and the natural world.

Dr. Abbott, a Native Hawaiian botanist, ethnobotanist, and world-renowned expert on limu, helped preserve and uplift ʻike Hawaiʻi through both science and cultural knowledge.

Visit our new flagship location, open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Museum admission is not required to shop. Complimentary 30-minute parking for shoppers is available to the left of the museum’s main entrance.

In the 1990s, Native Books & Beautiful Things, the early form of Nā Mea Hawaiʻi, operated within Bishop Museum before expanding to Ward. Today, Nā Mea Hawaiʻi has returned to Bishop Museum as our new flagship location, carrying forward our commitment to uplifting Hawaiʻi’s artists, makers, authors, cultural practitioners, and Native Hawaiian businesses.

Visit us to discover a thoughtfully curated selection of books, art, apparel, gifts, and locally made products rooted in Hawaiʻi.
