Happy World Environment Day!
Did you know that peanuts are one of the most sustainable crops in the U.S.? Peanuts use only 3.2 gallons of water to grow one ounce, compared to other nuts like almonds that use 28.7 gallons per ounce. Peanuts also create their own nitrogen, which boosts soil health and reduces synthetic fertilizers. And to top it all off, peanuts are a zero-waste crop, meaning that everything from their vines to their shells are put to use in things like fertilizer, biofuels, and soil additives!
