There is an opening on the Fire District Number One Steering Council to complete a term ending June 20, 2027. This position is for an At-Large member in an unincorporated area in the Fire District.

The purpose of the Sedgwick County Fire District Number One Steering Council is to advise the Board of County Commissioners sitting as the governing body for Sedgwick County Fire District Number One on matters pertaining to Sedgwick County Fire District Number One which include, but not limited to matters regarding human resources policies, information technology, salary and pay policies, operation and staffing of fire stations, and any operational policies of Sedgwick County Fire District One. The Board meets monthly at 6 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month.

Sedgwick County Firefighters always go above and beyond providing professional, skillful and compassionate service for Sedgwick County residents who may be experiencing the worst day of their lives.

Starting in Jan. 2025 – Sedgwick County Firefighters will start a new work schedule of 48 hours on duty and 96 hours off duty. This new schedule will maintain the same number of working hours, while allowing our firefighters more time with their families, improving their mental health and providing a better work/life balance.

Ready to join Sedgwick County Fire District #1? The next Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) will take place on Nov. 15, 2024, at Hutchinson Community College. This test is designed to help fire departments identify candidates who are physically capable of performing essential tasks at fire scenes. Completing the CPAT is a prerequisite for becoming a firefighter with SCFD1.
