In January of 2004, stay-at-home mom, Vicki Moore, came across an internet story about forced prostitution in India. The story detailed that approximately 200 women and girls are forced into the commercial s*x trade of India each day. Vicki dove deeper into the statistics and stories and could not believe what she found. Vicki felt the Lord's call to take action against the atrocity of human traff

icking in India, and by December of 2004 the newly founded Rahab's Rope held its first Christmas celebration in Bangalore, India -- 100 women were in attendance! Less than a year after Vicki Moore stumbled upon a seemingly obscure internet article, the ministry of Rahab's Rope was born. Since that first Christmas celebration, over 1200 women have been through the Rahab's Rope women's clinics in India. Help us bring hope and life to even more girls and women - join us in the fight against Human Trafficking in India!

The Story of Divya
Divya grew up with her parents and two siblings. Her parents did not have steady jobs and could not afford to send their children to school. Instead, they sent them out to beg on the streets each day. The family had no permanent home and moved constantly from place to place. At the age of 10, Divya became separated from her family. We do not know exactly what happened to her during that time. Two years later, when she was 12 years old, she was brought to the police, and we were asked to help locate her family and determine whether returning home would be safe.

When we first spoke with Divya, she was excited about the possibility of seeing her family again. She was able to provide enough information that, after considerable effort, we were able to locate them. However, when we brought Divya to meet her parents, they showed little interest in seeing her. They asked no questions about her well-being and made it clear that they did not want her to return to the family. Her mother immediately began scolding her, and Divya became visibly saddened by the encounter. Based on the family’s reaction, we suspected that Divya may have been sold to someone years earlier and had eventually escaped, surviving on the streets until she was found and taken to the police station. We spoke with several neighbors, who expressed concern for Divya’s safety and welfare. They believed that her family would not care for her properly and urged us to place her in a girls’ home where she could receive care and attend school.

Afterwards, we took Divya to the Women’s and Children’s Welfare Department to share her story and seek assistance in securing placement in a girls’ home and enrollment in school. There, we met with the school’s Superintendent, who assured Divya that all of her needs would be provided for. She promised that Divya would have a safe place to live, access to education, and counseling to help her heal from her experiences.

Overwhelmed with happiness, Divya responded, “Oh, please send me to school.” For the first time in a long while, Divya had hope for a brighter future.

We encounter many heartbreaking stories, but when we are able tohelp bring about a positive outcome, it reminds us why this work matters. Seeing Divya receive the opportunity for safety, education, and care made all the challenges worthwhile.

For Vicki Moore, faith has always been at the center of Rahab’s Rope. “I grew up in a family of strong Christian faith with people who set the example of always helping others,” she shares. “Much of the mission of Rahab’s Rope is built on the verse 1 John 3:18, ‘Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.’ From an early age, I saw that people experience God’s love more through our actions than our words.”

That truth came alive when Vicki heard the story of a young trafficked girl. “She said she was never allowed to go to school, couldn’t read or write, and couldn’t get a job. She wasn’t asking for a handout—she wanted someone to teach her how to do something. That was my call to action.”

Since then, she has seen God’s hand at work in countless ways. “Through the actions of love and kindness, teaching literacy, vocational skills, and God’s word, we see women that believe they have no value and no hope completely transform. When they realize there is a God that loves them and people that care and want to help, they believe hope and a different life is possible.”

This impact extends to children as well. “We began tutoring in a high-risk area where school drop-out was around second grade. We are able to help them stay in school and now have students in college. Through these actions many students have become believers and that has extended throughout their family.”
Vicki emphasizes that her role is not driven by ambition, but by obedience. “What I do is not something I would have chosen. But I know God put this path in front of me and said, ‘Go.’ My actions are those of faith and trust in God, not my own will or ambitions but a desire to bring God’s love, dignity and hope wherever He leads me.”

For her, faith is not separate from the mission—it is the heartbeat of everything Rahab’s Rope does.

Bringing the Good News!
We continually have the privilege of seeing God work through the ministry of Rahab’s Rope. Much of our work takes place in slums and red-light areas. Many slums are formed by people migrating in search of work. Because they cannot afford regular housing, they either help create a new slum community or find space within an existing one.

One of the slums where we minister is located in an industrial area where many people come seeking employment. Our staff are committed to making ten house visits in the slum each week.
Just last month, two men from a neighboring state moved into the area. Our director met them and shared the Gospel with them. After spending time together, both men accepted Christ as their Savior. They are now attending our church every Sunday, and we were blessed to gift each of them a new Bible.

We have also been visiting a family of eight whose children attend our after-school tutoring program. The family has expressed a desire to learn more about Jesus, so we were able to give each member of the family a Bible—the Good News!

Even more exciting, we have been given a creative new way to share the Good News. We now have a tablet loaded with a movie that tells the story of Jesus’ life. Families feel comfortable taking the tablet home to watch the film together. This often leads to meaningful follow-up conversations with our staff as families ask questions and learn more about Christ. Many people have accepted Christ through this new outreach tool.

Our staff are encouraged and excited as they witness more people coming to the saving knowledge of Christ. Please pray for our staff—for their health, safety, and encouragement. The needs within slum communities are great, and at times the work can feel overwhelming. Please also pray for the people we serve.

Thank you for joining us on this journey. Your support is such an encouragement to us and helps keep this ministry moving forward. May we all continue sharing the Good News!

“How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”Romans 10:15

Blessings,
Vicki
