Flashback Friday 💿
Some albums capture a moment. Others define an era. On June 19, 1971, Carole King’s ‘Tapestry’ climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard charts, where it remained for 15 weeks. Anchored by unforgettable songs like “It’s Too Late,” “I Feel the Earth Move,” “So Far Away,” and “You’ve Got a Friend,” the album struck a chord with listeners through its honesty, warmth, and timeless songwriting. It was finally knocked off the top spot in October by Rod Stewart’s ‘Every Picture Tells a Story.’
Already one of the most respected songwriters in the industry, King proved she belonged center stage. Tapestry became one of the best-selling albums in history and helped shape the singer-songwriter movement that defined much of the 1970s.
