Baseball Card Connection Employee Spotlight:

Meet our newest team member: Charlie Hiatt

For 35 years, Baseball Card Connection in downtown Effingham has been about cards, community, and the people who make it all possible. Over the next few weeks, we’ll introduce you to our team that includes a mix of family and familiar faces that have been here for many years.

We’re kicking things off with our newest team member, Charlie Hiatt, who joined us on July 14!

Charlie is a St. Anthony High School graduate and an alum of the Effingham CEO Class of 2026, where he earned Entrepreneur of the Year. During the CEO experience, Charlie created "Charlie’s Chocolate Bananas", giving him first hand experience in turning an idea into a real business. Charlie has been a fixture at weekend special events in our area, selling his chocolate covered treats. He’s now continuing his education at Lake Land College studying business education.

Before joining our crew, Charlie spent two years as a cashier at Kirby Foods. When he’s away from work and school, you’ll find him playing guitar, working on cars, visiting sports stores and card shows, or spending time with friends and family.

We’re excited to have Charlie as part of the Baseball Card Connection family and to join him on his next adventure! His entrepreneurial mind, customer service skills, passion for trading cards, and expertise in Pokemon cards has made him a perfect addition to our team.

Let's give him a warm welcome, and don't forget to say hi to Charlie the next time you visit our store!

Happy Halloween 2026!

We will be OPEN Saturday, October 31st, from 10:00am - 2:00pm.

This week our main focus was unopened product. We have made a large investment in sealed product and we completely restocked all of the unopened packs and boxes throughout the store. Our staff did a wonderful job packing the shelves full and you won't believe the depth of our inventory until you see it in person!

The favorite part of running your own business are the memories youmake every single day with customers. We love to see all of the families spending quality time together in our store. The community that we have created at our store, known as the BCC tribe, will never be matched by the big box retailers.

The difference is, we love our customers, and we hope it shows in the shopping environment and quality inventory we offer to our customers.

Some new products that have hit the shelf include Pokemon 30th Avnniversary Trainer Boxes, 2026 Donruss Football, 2026 Topps Holiday Football, 2026 Topps Holiday Baseball, 2026 Topps Holiday Baseball Gift Tins, 2025-26 Panini Select Hobby Basketball, and 2026 WNBA Basketball Prizm Hobby, just to list a few!

Do you collect trading cards? Pay us a visit and get ready to dive into an exciting sports collectibles store that features over 15 million trading cards. Our store has a huge selection of baseball, football, basketball, hockey, soccer, and Pokemon individual trading cards.

We hope that you will take some time off from your busy schedule this weekend and pay us a visit. Thank you Kiwanis Club for inviting us to speak about our business. We love talking about the trading card industry and the joy it brings to our lives. We are proud to be a small part of the wonderful Effingham business community.

On October 7th, Jon & Lisa Schafer spoke to Kiwanis about what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur as owners of Baseball Card Connection in downtown Effingham. From its beginning in Jon’s parents’ home to growing into a top EBay collectible shop & brick and mortar destination, The Baseball Card Connection is the result of hard work, dedication, and a passion for the industry.

Thanks to Jon Lisa Schafer for sharing your dream with Kiwanis.
