Did you know there are different types of bridges? The bridge is one of the most important parts of our instrument. They are custom cut to each individual instrument, so not all bridges fit every violin, viola, cello, or bass! The bridge provides 20% of the instrument's acoustic output. The cost of a bridge varies depending on which quality you choose for your instrument.
We carry two different brands of bridges: Despiau and Aubert. Each brand has different qualities, which you can learn more about in these photos!

This week’s feature is a Camillo Mandelli “da Calco” violin from 1927. He was born in Calco in 1873, and studied under Bisiach and Antoniazzi. He established himself in Buenos Aires, Argentina from 1889 to 1920 before going back to Calco. Mandelli moved to Sesto San Giovanni, Milan in 1936, and lived there until his death in 1956. His work tends to reflect the Antoniazzi style.
He was known for his meticulous attention to detail. He would requently visit Tyrolean forests in search of the perfect wood for his instruments. His varnish was highly regarded and his instruments were recognized for their inviting tone.
