One standout prototype: Scherer Electric’s RWSX 23524–23937, built in 2003 for service to Georgia Power’s Plant Scherer. These 4,200 cu. ft. Trinity RD-series hoppers regularly haul Powder River Basin coal east to the Southeast - and many are still in service more than 20 years later.

Our latest run of Rivet Counter HO Scale GP40 Diesel Locomotives has arrived at our East Tennessee warehouse and is shipping now! This release features five (5) new roadnames and 11 total paint scheme variations of this classic 3,000-horsepower four-axle diesel - perfect for fast freight, intermodal, and road switcher service across multiple eras.

First introduced in 1965 and powered by EMD’s turbocharged 645-series engine, the GP40 quickly became one of the most successful road switchers in North America, with more than 1,200 built. Its horsepower and acceleration made it a favorite for premium freight service - and a staple on railroads nationwide.

True to the Rivet Counter name, this second run delivers exceptional prototype fidelity, including lost-wax brass horns and a wide range of railroad and era-specific details. From Cotton Belt “Lobotomized” variations and B&O-specific features to accurate Phase spotting details, truck types, lighting packages, and Dash-2 rebuild nuances, these GP40s reflect the real locomotives with precision.

Our all-new Rivet Counter HO Scale CSX Wabtec CM44AC is coming to the Rivet Counter line - and one of the key focus points of this model is the raised radiator grilles and shutter system, one of the most visible upgrades of CSX’s rebuild program.

Rebuilt from CSX’s AC4400CW fleet, the CM44ACs feature raised radiator grilles with adjustable shutters that improve cooling and give these locomotives their distinctly modern Wabtec appearance. Last week we announced the all-new Rivet Counter HO Scale RD-6 Coal Hopper.

Based on Trinity’s rapid-discharge design, these aluminum hoppers feature rugged steel underframes, bottom-dump doors, and rotary couplers, making them a workhorse of high-volume coal operations even today.

As a Rivet Counter release, the RD-6 is loaded with prototype-specific detail, including precision end cages, highly detailed 100-ton trucks with rotating bearing caps, a magnetized removable coal load, and maximum-weight construction with detailed interiors.
