Picture trying to pay your water bill online. The form has no labels. Your screen reader just says “edit text.” You call town hall instead.

That happens every day. A federal rule aims to fix it.

By April 26, 2027, cities and towns with 50,000 or more people must make their websites and forms accessible. Smaller towns have until April 26, 2028.
Is your town ready? Start with our free readiness check. Ten questions. See where you stand. 👇🏿

Today is Election Day. 🗳️

We spend our days helping communities make sense of their data. Today, you create it.

Every ballot says what matters to one person. Jobs. Schools. Housing. The future of your town.

If you have not voted yet, there is still time. Polls are open today.
Your community is counting on you. So is the data. ✅

A note from our Chief Problem Solver.

I voted on Friday. Here is why a data founder thinks it matters.

I run Uncut Lab, a small data firm. We help people who serve their communities make decisions with evidence. Our work depends on public data. Census counts. Labor statistics. Local records.

That data comes from the public. So I owe the public more than a good report. I owe it my own participation too.

I vote in national elections. Lately I make sure to show up for local ones too. That is where decisions about land, jobs, and schools get made.

There are many issues on the ballot. One stays on my mind.

AI is changing local economies now. Quantum computing may be next. The way we measure growth has not caught up.

A job count does not show which jobs are changing.
A growth rate does not show who is left out.
A regional average can hide a neighborhood in trouble.
The people we elect will shape how we measure that change. And what we do about it.

Our local economies matter. So does how we vote.
If you have not voted yet, please vote on Tuesday. 🗳️

The scariest thing we saw this Halloween wasn’t a costume. 👻

It was a town website that a resident with a screen reader couldn’t use.

Accessible websites aren’t spooky. They’re required by April 2027. Let’s get yours ready.

Evidence of community benefit requires more than a list of activities or a single snapshot. Funders may need to see what changed over time, where the impact occurred, who benefited, and how the findings were calculated.

Uncut Lab helps teams build that evidence with a consistent methodology, geographic precision, comparable data, and a clear trail back to the underlying sources. The result is documentation that is easier for reviewers to understand and verify.

Can your current reporting clearly show who benefited and how you know?

Book a call with Uncut Lab (https://www.google.com/search?q=https://calendar.app.google/kKg7XB8qL1g9zwv6A) to discuss how we can help your team build stronger evidence of community impact.

Big news out of Westfield this week.

The planning board said no to a $3 billion data center. The company behind it never even bought the land.

After years of promises, the board ran out of patience. Westfield also passed a one year pause on new data centers this past summer.

This is what happens when a community pays close attention to its own backyard.
We build tools for exactly this kind of moment. Towns deserve a clear answer before projects like this get five years old, not after.

Have you been following the data center conversations in your town? Tell us in the comments.

When the state gives a company a tax credit to grow in your town, it comes with a promise of new jobs. Last month 10 projects shared $11.5M, from Orange to New Bedford. Is your town on the list? Here is a good question for your next town meeting. How many of those jobs will go to people who live here? If you work for your town or a local nonprofit, tell us how you keep track. https://forms.gle/CdS46BgDsDHNEvWM7

Back in July, our team attended the ESRI User Conference.

It is the largest GIS conference in the world. More than 18,000 people from over 100 countries came together. This year's theme was Creating a More Intelligent World.

Here is what we heard, in plain terms.

AI is coming to maps. New tools can spot patterns and answer questions about a place faster than ever.
Simpler tools. Users told Esri that mapping software needs to be easier to use.
Built for every size. Small towns and small teams were part of the conversation. Not just big cities.

So why does this matter for your community?

Maps are getting smarter. But smart tools still need good local data. They need people who know the place. A town in Central Massachusetts is not the same as a city in California.

That is where Uncut Lab comes in. We take powerful data tools and make them work for local decisions. Housing. Jobs. Where to invest next.

The technology is moving fast. We want Massachusetts communities to move with it.

Economic development teams make big calls with scattered data. Most places collect data once a year for one grant, or an an at need basis for a prospective employer or their board. Then what happens to that data? Does it go stale? Do you repurpose it for studies? We want to learn how you work today. Which data do you trust? Where do you get stuck? What do you wish you could see before the money is spent? The survey is short. Please share it with your team. https://forms.gle/CdS46BgDsDHNEvWM7

Massachusetts takes its name from the Massachusett people.

Many town and river names across the state come from Indigenous languages. Nipmuc. Wampanoag. Pocumtuck. These names are part of the map we use every day.

This Indigenous Peoples' Day, we are reflecting on the history beneath the places we serve.
