Walked around to check all my fruit trees/bushes yesterday to see how well everything is doing... it looks like I am actually going to have apples this year, not a ton but super stoked because I've planted what feels like 6 billion apple trees over the course of the last almost 9 years, and between all the rubbing and over grazing, the deer have killed all but 2.

It doesn't bother me if the trees get eaten or killed out in the field... I've planted several hundred over the years (all from local conservation district tree sales, or seeds I've started) and my thoughts are, if it's planted in the field it's a survival of the fittest The only water they get is whatever comes from the rain and the only protection they get is a tree tube, so I can see them when I mow the field every once in awhile.

Also planted kiwi berries and the last 4 years the birds eat all the fruits before they are even ripe. This year there are so many berries, that I might actually be able to eat 1 or 2.

Of course there are millions of fruits on all the black, yellow and red raspberries, we usually end up harvesting 10-12 gallon size Ziploc bags and tossing them in the freezer every year before we get tired of going out for the rest and just let the animals finish them off.

Same with the elderberries... Not 10-12 bags but usually 4-5.

The grapes we constantly have to fight the birds for.... It's going out daily to taste them to see when they are ripe, and then race the birds to gather them.... If we miss it by a day, then we hardly get any. Luckily we have several months before that's an issue.

So, I am constantly doing "silly" things... to put it nicely.

My latest "silly" thing is something I was half joking about and half serious about. Okay... maybe more like 1/8 joke, 3/4 serious, and 1/4 "WTF are you thinking?"

Yes, I realize that's more than 100%. That's because when it comes to overthinking—or possibly underthinking—I always give 110%.

Anyway, a while back I mentioned that I wanted peacocks.

Let me explain my decision-making process for just about everything in my life:

Step 1: Overthink everything. Research it obsessively. Read articles. Watch videos. Learn way more than any normal person should.

Step 2: Spend a few weeks talking myself out of it.

Step 3: Ignore everything from Step 2 and dive headfirst into it anyway.

Sometimes I skip directly from Step 1 to Step 3 if I'm feeling particularly ambitious. Either way, it usually ends with the same outcome.

So guess what? I'm getting some freaking peafowl.

Now, am I going to do the smart thing and start with just a couple to see if I actually like raising them?

Umm... did you miss the part about diving headfirst into things? Nope.

I think I'm going to go with a couple separate bloodlines, just in case I decide I want to breed them someday.

Would it be smarter to start small and see how it goes?

Absolutely. Will I do that? Also absolutely not.

At this point, I've just accepted that my life is a never-ending series of questionable decisions, but hey.... it leads to interesting stories.

It certainly is a beautiful day out today, so why not take a drive and hit up a few local spots while you're out and about?

Fair warning: this itinerary is extremely food and dessert heavy, so pace yourself.

Start your adventure at Ionia Handmade LLC and Sweet Aunt Annie's . Then roll through Saranac and stop at Paula Jean’s Broken Yolk for a bite to eat. Grab some flowers at Ström Floral Design , and because you're already there, you might as well stop for dessert at Des Cakes & Ice Cream .

Next, make your way toward Belding. Stop here at Krupp Road, of course..... And the neighbor is having her monthly big barn sale, right down the road. Then head over to Hansen Family Farm Stand, take a goat hike at Dreamgoats , and see what other flowers are available at Idlewild Farm .

By now you'll probably be getting hungry again (or maybe that's just me), so grab another bite to eat at Gather Restaurant. Then immediately undo any good dietary decisions with MORE dessert from Little Red Schoolhouse.

Finally, round out the day by picking up a few more plants for your flower beds at Rosebud's
and Two Seasons Greenhouse.

See? I should be your personal day-trip planner more often.

By the time you get home, you'll be completely stuffed, your wallet will be a little lighter, your vehicle will somehow be full of plants, flowers, baked goods, and random treasures... and your work still isn't done.

Now you have to get all those new plants in the ground.

Today's Find of the Day is this Polaroid Land Camera Model 95A, also known as the "Speedliner," produced between 1954 and 1957.

Do I know anything about vintage cameras? Not even a little.

Did that stop me from buying it? Also no.

You see, my brain works on a very sophisticated system:

"Is it old?"
"Yes."

"Does it look neat?"
"Also yes."

"Bring it home."

It's a flawless process with absolutely no downside whatsoever.

Is it rare? I don't know.
Is it valuable? Not really.
Did I buy it because I thought it was cool? Yep.

Sometimes that's all the justification you need.

A little while ago, someone asked if I had one of those giant wall-hanging spoon and fork sets. Unfortunately, I don't remember who it was (I need to write everything down, otherwise it is an almost guarantee I will forget... I'll remember what I'm hunting for, but not who it was for) but if you happen to see this, I do have a set now!

They aren't the vintage wooden ones, but they're a more modern take on that classic look. These are metal with a copper-colored finish and would make a fun addition to a kitchen, dining room, or anywhere else you feel the need to display oversized eating utensils.

***Also, if there's something specific you're looking for, let me know. I can't promise I'll find it, but I'll certainly try. Honestly, that's my favorite part of all this—the hunt. Digging through barns, estate sales, auctions, and piles of randomness looking for that one ridiculous thing someone wants. I don't get to do it as much as I used to, but I still love the challenge of tracking down interesting and unusual treasures.

What? That's crazy. Who doesn't enjoy feeling like they're trapped on a roller coaster while trying to identify a plant?

Apparently some people prefer to actually see what they're looking at. Weird.

Need something for the yard? We've got you covered.

From yard décor and faux topiaries to purdy little flowers in metal buckets, perennials, spruce trees, and even a few plants that are as useful as they are pretty. Some can be enjoyed by you, some by your animals, and some have been appreciated for generations for reasons Facebook doesn't want me talking about. 😆

I'm sure you've heard this a million times already...

**"I'm bored."**

And it's only been about 10 days since school let out. Yay... Summer Break.

Take the kids to the beach, lake, or river and let them run wild for a while—but stop here first and grab some gear.

We've got fold-up beach chairs (probably best suited for the younger crowd because they sit *waaaay* too low for me), beach toys, snorkeling gear, goggles, pool noodles, floaties, and enough sand toys to keep them busy until they inevitably decide a stick is more fun.

There's also an assortment of arts and crafts on the shelf, which should keep them entertained for at least a few minutes before they're asking for snacks.

And of course, there are toys.

Honestly, those are my only suggestions. Your other options are loading them up with chores they either won't do, or will do so spectacularly badly that you'll end up doing them yourself anyway.

Good luck. Summer break has just started, don't go nuts yet... save that for August, when we're all just counting down the days until they go back to school
