In this dual-POV novel, we follow Natalie, a divorcee looking for adventure during her vacation to modern-day France, and Barbe-Nicole Clicquot, a champagne businesswoman from 1805 France looking to expand her business amidst the beginnings of a war. When Natalie first arrives in France, she finds a book of letters written by Barbe-Nicole detailing both her personal and business life and how she dealt with the struggles that came with being a woman during a time when they were not accepted anywhere in the business world. With the help of the letters, Natalie is able to learn what it means to be truly independent, even when the whole world seems to be out to get her and other women across the globe.

Kate Macintosh’s debut novel, “The Champagne Letters” is beautiful, with powerful characters, unexpected twists, and a gorgeous city for you to explore.

Drawing on topics like Bantu linguistics, Octavia Butler novels, Star Trek episodes, pop culture, hip-hop lyrics, and a thousand other touchpoints, "The Edge of Space Time" by Chandra Prescod-Weinstein not only explains heady, difficult topics like spacetime, black holes, and dark matter, but shows how our understanding of any of these are inextricably linked to art. Often funny and always enriching, Prescod-Weinstein writes through a Black feminist, socially conscious, anti-colonial lens and invites all of us to profoundly expand how we think in order to see the possibilities that result when we reject the limits on our imaginations and embrace the plurality of what we can dream.

"The way our work becomes part of people's cultural world is enough for me to know that none of this is a waste of our time and money. Over and over again, we find meaning--poetry, prose, music, art--in the cosmos, even the parts that we may never see."

Today we are joined by author Tessa Yang whose debut published novel The Jellyfish Problem instantly captivated Ellyn and Amanda. Most you know if it's got a touch of monster and magical realism it's likely to have that special sauce and become a Dog-Eared favorite.

For as long as she can remember, two things have been fundamentally true about Jo Ness: she is fascinated by jellyfish, and she is misunderstood by most people. The Jellyfish Problem is a story about coming to terms with grief, about trusting others and finding community, and about the interconnectedness of us all. Ellyn and Amanda adore it.
