Before this building was Browsers’ Bookstore, it lived a life as a pizza parlor named Shakey’s Pizza. These are some of the original signs from the parlor!?

As far as I understand, after it was Shakey’s it was the First Round Tavern, which I’ve heard stories of drunks being carted by hand-truck home and drunks falling into our neighbors’ backyard. Etc etc.

Then! At some point the building became Albany Book Company, owned by Carl. 20 some odd years ago Scott .g.insta bought it and turned it into Vol. 2 of Browsers’ Bookstore. I’m sure I’ll be corrected on all of this but it’s the gist anyway.

It’s amazing to me that a feat of this caliber is not mentioned in the man’s Wikipedia entry!?

From the recently acquired Winged Words on Chantrey’s Woodcocks by Muirhead, 1857. A book of poems, essays, and observations regarding the apparently infamous incident of Chantrey shooting two birds with one shot at Holkham Hall.

Sir Francis Chantrey was a renowned portrait sculpture in Regency era Britain.
