Doty goes over a killer I-35 LC from our friends just down the road in Austin.

Faded Cherry, laminate construction, center block, and a set of ThroBak SLE101 Plus MXV pickups that absolutely make this guitar.

The I-35 LC already has a voice all its own — dry, woody, focused, and incredibly balanced. Add the ThroBaks and it starts doing that thing everybody wants from a great semi-hollow: clear clean tones, rich edge-of-breakup sounds, and leads that stay full without getting muddy.

Doty goes over a Gibson Custom Dealer Select ’59 Les Paul Standard in Tejas Burst.

The big thing here: it’s chambered, Ultra Light Aged, and only 7lb 4.2oz.
On a '59.
Insane.

That’s a very different feel for a ’59 Les Paul. Still the classic Custom Shop R9 recipe — handpicked AAA maple top, mahogany body, Custombuckers, 50s Rounded Medium C neck, ABR-1, lightweight aluminum stopbar, and a Lifton case — but with a way lighter weight than it's typical brethren.

Fender just launched the James Jamerson 1962 Precision Bass.

It’s hard to overstate what Jamerson did.

Before him, the electric bass was still finding its place. After him, it had a new language.

He anchored the Motown sound, rewrote the role of bass in popular music, and influenced everyone from Paul McCartney and John Entwistle to Geddy Lee, Marcus Miller, and generations of players who learned that bass could lead, answer, push, dance, and carry a song all at once.

This new Fender signature honors his 1962 Precision Bass with a Heirloom Nitrocellulose Lacquer finish, era-correct feel, and a custom James Jamerson ’62 Precision Bass pickup built for that deep, unmistakable Motown foundation.

Doty goes over the newest addition to the Collings Hill Country lineup — the DS2A HC 12-Fret.

The Hill Country guitars have consistently blown us away, and this one is no different. Still Collings-level clean, still incredibly consistent, but with a drier, woodier, more fundamental sound than the standard Collings acoustic voice.

This Collings adds a 12-fret dreadnought body, sunburst Adirondack spruce top, East Indian rosewood back and sides, DS Hill Country neck, slotted peghead, relic nickel Waverlys, and hand-poured tortoise appointments.

This is a killer addition to the Hill Country lineup.

Tomorrow the World Cup brings Netherlands vs. Japan to Arlington — its first match in North Texas — and we're honored to have fans from both nations in our city. From all of us at Tone Shop, we hope you enjoy every minute of it.

The matchup hits home for a guitar shop, so we pulled one from each side:

For the Netherlands, an EVH Custom Shop Wolfgang — black with a candy tangerine back that echoes the Oranje. Fitting, since Eddie Van Halen himself was Dutch-born.

For Japan, an Ibanez Prestige RG5440C in a rich, blue finish from one of Japan's most revered builders.

Two nations, two guitars, one beautiful game. We're closed Sundays, but our doors are open all week if you'd like to see them in person.

Doty walks through one of the Gibson Custom Dealer Select ’59 Les Pauls we designed on our last trip to Gibson.

This one is finished in Cobra Burst VOS — not exactly something you see every day on a ’59 Les Paul Standard Reissue. We handpicked the tops for this run, worked through the finish direction with Gibson Custom, and ended up with a small batch that feels familiar in all the right ways, but looks just different enough to stop you.

This one comes in at 7 lb 3.9 oz, which is wild for a ’59-style Les Paul. Lightweight, resonant, Custombucker-equipped, and finished in a rare burst that gives it a darker edge without taking it too far from the classic Les Paul thing.

Jay walks through a limited PRS Custom 24 Semi-Hollow LTD in Faded Indigo, and this one is loaded.

Limited to just 150 guitars worldwide, it features an Artist Grade flame maple top, semi-hollow single F-hole body, Cuban mahogany neck, ebony fretboard, Outline Old-School Birds in Korean Awabi, smoked black hardware, and PRS DMO pickups.

It’s still a Custom 24 at its core — 24 frets, trem, dual humbuckers, and that wide range of PRS tones — but the semi-hollow build adds a little more air and keeps the weight light. At 6 lbs 14.9 oz, this one has a lively feel before you even plug it in.
