Good Wool Hunting Hello & welcome. We are a Wairarapa based retailer of yarns and accessories Bidwills Cutting Rd. Hello, we're Rachel & Bruce.

Our Greytown shop has been likened to a sweet shop for knitters and crocheters! Fri to Sunday, 10-4pm (by appt outside of those days/times :) ) We've been married for over 25 years, and have three adult children (24, 22 and 19 years). We started off as online-only in September 2021, but we opened a bricks-and-mortar shop in Greytown, November 2023. Our driving force has always been to provide to our customers a wide selection of quality yarns, accessories, needles and notions at affordable prices. On weekends, we dye our own yarns, and produce project bags and knitting balms (Greytown Fibre Co.) It's wonderful to be able to source overseas yarn brands and bring them to this part of the world. In September/October of 2026, we will be opening "The Crafty Pen", a community craft space where knit-nights, workshops and gatherings can happen for our local Wairarapa community. We hope you enjoy creating as much as we do.

If you have ever been curious about how sheep fleece is turned into a ball of wool, come see how it is done. Michelle Dawson is taking a group out to Rewa Rewa Station, Tinui on Thursday, 12 November 9.30am - 3.30pm. And since we are out that way, we will also visit Castlepoint. Cost $80 includes transport and tour fee - BYO lunch. To reserve a place, call Michelle on 0211486888.

The Crafty Pen is officially complete! Our first weekly social crafting night begins THIS THURSDAY 5 November, 7pm to 10pm. Bring your current WIP/project and let's have a relaxing evening of knitting, crocheting, embroidery, sewing, patchwork, [insert your favourite craft here]. Daytime sessions are yet to be organised, but are on our list of things to do!
When you come, please ignore the "Closed" sign (though the shop will be closed, unless you have a 'yarn emergency' 🧶), and drive 10kph down the drive towards The Crafty Pen. How exciting!!
** Edited to say we have $2 tea and instant coffee, or just bring your own beverage. We also have a fundraiser snack selection (proceeds going to the local schools, Kuranui and Greytown Primary).

We're on the home straight with the Crafty Pen, our community craft room. Just have the kitchenette to install. A warm day today but nice and cool in there with the aircon on!

Carpet looks fantastic thanks to Flair Flooring Xtra in Carterton. Also massive thanks to Margot for her input and muscles when needed.

It's all go here! We are getting the heat pump installed this morning, plus Danny is building a ramp to make The Crafty Pen more accessible. It's all too much for Murphy, who is taking refuge in Danny the Builder's van 🥰. One of the signs are up, too.

There's been a huge surge of popularity with weaving in the Wairarapa recently. This is all down to the beginners classes held in Pirinoa by the lovely Cris Mirkin! Louise, one of her students, recently completed the two day class. Attached are photos of the two scarfs woven with the beautiful Malabrigo Rios wool (available at Good Wool Hunting). The pink scarf uses Rios "Anniversario", and the green one is in "Solis". They're simply gorgeous! 😍

Louise says that "learning to weave with Cris Mirkin at Weaving Wairarapa was so easy and fun." To produce both scarves, Louise used an Ashford Sampleit Loom. Now that Good Wool Hunting is an Asford Dealer, you can get all your Ashford weaving supplies from us.

Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful woven scarves with us, Louise. All the best for your next scarf in "Glazed carrot"!
