We’re inviting writers from Ireland and beyond to submit their work for the Kate O’Riordan Prize for Short Fiction 2026, part of this year’s Kenmare Arts Festival.

Celebrating creativity, storytelling, and bold new voices, the prize honours the remarkable career of Kate O’Riordan — multi‑award‑winning author of six novels, writer for theatre and screen, and creator of Smother and Blackshore. Kate’s own journey began when she won the Hennessy/Tribune Prize for a short story, and she has been a steadfast supporter of emerging writers ever since.
If you have a story to tell, this is your chance to share it.

Painter. Storyteller. Deeply connected to the Irish landscape.
Mike Lewisohn’s work emerges from instinct, memory, and the quiet power of nature. Living and painting in County Clare, Mike approaches each canvas as a journey — allowing colour, texture, and imagination to guide the process. Inspired by places both real and remembered, his paintings evoke moments of stillness, reflection, and possibility.
Often centred around a distant hill, solitary tree, or shimmering reflection, his work invites the viewer inward — towards spaces of hope, freedom, peace, and understanding.
Educated at the Royal Academy of Art in Copenhagen and Limerick School of Art and Design, Mike has exhibited extensively throughout Ireland and the UK since 1986. Alongside his practice as a painter, he has also worked as an art teacher, gallery coordinator, and exhibition installer, bringing a lifelong dedication to the visual arts.
Atmospheric. Meditative. Unmistakably Irish.

Support the Kenmare Arts Festival 2026

Parts of this year’s festival — including the beloved Windows Exhibition — were cancelled due to a shortfall in council funding. This campaign aims to fill that gap and keep Kenmare’s creative spirit alive.

Your support will help:

Keep the festival alive
– Ensure Kenmare continues to host a public celebration of art, music, and creativity.
Support local artists
– Provide exhibition space for artists who might otherwise be excluded.
Preserve a community tradition
– The festival boosts local businesses, draws visitors, and strengthens Kenmare’s cultural identity.
Cover essential costs
– Help fund materials, venues, insurance, publicity, and accessibility improvements.
Engage young and emerging talent
– Support workshops and open calls that give new voices a platform.

Every contribution helps sustain a festival that belongs to everyone — a celebration of art, community, and connection.
