Ahhhh! I have been holding in a SECRET 🍿👀

Today is the launch of my new company (Surprise!). Last year me and my friend started making protein dusted popcorn as a snack for ourselves - we wanted something a little more healthy and filling than regular chips or popcorn, but not one of those “healthy” snacks. We needed something addictive that still satisfied that “I need to polish off an entire family bag of chips” feeling. The popcorn tasted really good so we did what comes naturally when two creative entrepreneur friends sit down together…started a new business 🤣

SnackiPop launches for pre-order today on our website (available for pickup/shipping late April) and our in-person launch is NEXT WEEK at the One of a Kind Show!

We’re definitely throwing ourselves in the deep end doing a show like as our first official show…and yes, I am out of my mind for doing TWO BOOTHS for both light+paper and Snacki. But we’re really proud of our product, excited about our booth, and ready to bring Snacki to you! Come see us at OOAK in booth Q20 and taste some Snacki and get hooked 🍿❤️🍿❤️🍿❤️🍿❤️🍿

Oh, and I guess this is my post 😅

Today I’m framing up a few of this piece - it’s the white paper heart framed pressed in between two pieces of acrylic above the red lungs - it creates a really cool shadow and two dimensional look. Everytime I bring this to a show it sells out but we are EXTRA prepared for this year, I’ve got all the most popular framed pieces already framed, wrapped and ready!! This is very unlike me usually I’m frantically framing these in the booth on day 1 😅😅

Time to start the countdown because we’re exactly 2 weeks out now!

Welcome to my studio ✨ it was 11 short/long years ago that I moved into this spot. I had just quit my full time job at U of T. I had just bought a new lasercutting machine. And my very first One of a Kind Show was 3 weeks away. The space was way too big, I fit my machine, desk, shelf, and one little pile of wood in the corner and the rest was totally empty (look how empty/sad it looks lol)

I remember breaking down crying alone because I was so stressed out and worried (and I only cry like….once a year max). I couldn’t get the exhaust set up for my machine. I didn’t have a studiomate to rent out half the space and couldn’t afford the rent alone. I had my first big “real” show coming up in weeks and didn’t even know what lasercut products I would make let alone having a stocked up inventory. It’s one of those memories that feels like 10 minutes ago and also 100 years ago, and I still get a heart race stress feeling just thinking of that time.

Since then I found the best studiomate to share my space with and we filled every corner with wood and paper and leather and plants and twinkle lights and random pieces of furniture we found by the dumpster. The rent went up, we re-signed the lease year after year, and now it’s been our home for over a decade. I’ve gone through the motions of lugging my OOAK walls down and up the stairs again and again and again and now I do it all on autopilot (ok actually now I hire movers to lug the walls but MENTALLY I lug those walls???).

I made this new lasercut door sign, because I realized the one on our front door was still from when Robin moved in 10 years ago, and we need a refresh to bring in the new decade. Cheers to #227 and to another year of lugging it all to OOAK.

P.s. Just wanting to say I feel weird posting now after finding out the news this week about our OOAK friend Pat’s passing. I’m sure those who were supposed to be doing Artists Project this weekend alongside him feel it too. I’ll share the fundraiser link in my bio and story, sending love and comfort to his family and friends and all who are thinking about him too ❤️❤️❤️❤️
