It's Mental Health Week (May 4-10) 🧠
And I wanted to share a very important book to me on this subject.

💌Terrier recommends… "Reasons to Stay Alive" by Matt Haig

Maybe you know Matt Haig for his most popular novel, The Midnight Library, but I love him more for his non-fiction books about mental health, and specifically, depression.

This book is bite-size stories about depression. What it feels like, moments of hope, moments of despair, list of books that help him etc.

The best thing about this book is that you can pick-it up read a small chapter and put-it down. Just like my other favourite non fiction book of him, The Comfort Book (which I'll do a post about next time I have it in stock!).

During my own journey with depression, this is one of the few books that I could relate to, and that helped me.

Here, I'll share my list of things to do to feel better when I'm feel down:
📚 read a favourite book
🎶 listen to music
🎨 colouring
🎬 watch my favourite movies
🌳 go outside in nature

Writing down your own list somewhere accessible can be a good trick to remember it, in those dark moments that we all experience at some point.

And most importantly: talk to someone about your feelings. Don’t keep it to yourself.
Like Matt Haig say,

"Nothing is stronger than a small hope that doesn't give up".

Today, May 5th, is Red Dress Day.

The Red Dress Project was initially created back in 2010 by Jamie Black to raise awareness for the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit people.
Unfortunately, this is still a very important issue in Canada.

For this post, I'm sharing two pages from the book "Painting Our Legacy" by .

💌Terrier recommends… "Driven" by Susie Wolff

🎧 The very first audiobook that I truly enjoyed (my thoughts on audiobooks below)

It was a fantastic read!
I’ve never been an F1 or car fan. And one of the reasons has always been the lack of representation of female driver. Especially in F1.
So that’s why I was very interested to read Susie Wolff’s book. To understand why.

The book describes her childhood & career, but also gives you a deep insight to what the F1/racing world is all about, as women 🏎️
She reminded us that racing is one of the few sports that is actually not about gender at all. And that’s something we can easy forget when we see how few women they are in those sports.

By telling us about her childhood and family, we’re able to better understand how she came to be the great role model she is in racing right now.

The author also explains the reasons why there are not as much female in racing as there is male:
- cultural representation/stereotypes
- lack of sponsorship interest
- lack of broadcasting interest
All of which we could change. And fortunately, it is changing (and in a big part because of her).

I love this memoir and would recommend it to anyone interested in women in sports or/and who wants to be inspired.

❣️Note on Audiobooks:
I did struggle a lot connecting with audiobooks. For me my preferred media of reading as always been print books and ebooks.
However, I'm also a big podcast person and listening to this memoir felt like a very interesting podcast. For me, at least now, I feel like non fiction is the way to go with audiobooks. So if you're struggling like me listening to books on audio, why not try a memoir or some non fiction?

Happy Canadian Independent Bookstore Day 🥳

In baby months, it's been 16 months since we've open our doors.
No pressure, but it's solely because of you that we are here. We don't have big corporations who give us money.

We/I do it for the love of literature, books and the community.
When you choose to put your money in an indie bookstore instead of Chapters, Wallmart etc. You keep your hard-earned money in YOUR community.
You contribute to create and keep spaces where people can feel safe to buy any books and you keep knowledge accessible and available in YOUR town/province/country.

It's way more than just buying things. Or books, for that matter.
You're also helping me live my dream, in one of the most beautiful place on earth, by giving back to you.

Please, keep supporting independent bookstores 💚

Thank you for Indie bookstores.
Thank you for Sooke.
Thank you for me.

How cute is this hand-drawn card by ? 🌼

It’s always nice to receive a card from someone. For special occasions and no occasion as well.

If you don’t know what to get someone as a gift, a nice card -and why not add a gift card to it- will always be a safe bet.
Better than any expensive gift that you’re not sure of.
