Alison is a spinner from Calgary who realized that Eye of the Needle is only open four days a week, but was able to return on her last day in Fernie. Alison bought de-haired yak and mohair roving to spin and as exotic fibres don’t sell as fast as yarn, was happy to share her photo and explain that the mohair is going to be spun as bouclé.

There was a lot going on last Saturday. The frisbee golf tournament in James White Park in memory of Logan Gaede raised over $12,000. And over 50 garage and table top sales around Fernie, including a few in unexpected places was another great community event. Rain didn’t start until 2:00. Thank you to all who pitched in to help.

Sandra will be attending a lunch and learn session today, so Eye of the Needle will be open 10-11:25, closed until 1:00 then open again just after 1:00 until 5:00. Don’t worry about the topic, there are no plans to sell the business or retire from it just yet…but it will help to have the facts about any future exit strategy.

Thank you so much to the CBAL program in Fernie (Columbia Basin Adult Literacy) for obtaining a grant to host seniors at the Salvation Army, giving out free soup and a craft every Wednesday. Sadly, last week was the final lunchtime session, but the range of crafts made was fabulous. Here is what Sandra produced, with all materials provided.

It’s exciting to be able to offer a much bigger selection of yarns dyed by Happy Holmes Fibre Arts in Cranbrook. Not only in more beautiful colourways but also in greater quantities than before. From individual mini skeins to sock, DK, worsted and super bulky weights there is sure to be something for your next project, so come and see.

The weather didn’t cooperate on Victoria Day weekend, so the Tunisian crochet workshop, due to be in the gazebo at Annex Park, came instead to Eye of the Needle. There was much joyful chatter and hilarity drifting up the stairs, so hopefully the ladies had a good time. Great pivot, Stitched By Marissa!

Clodagh loved knitting a double sided reversible toque from “Rain or shine” 4 ply 100% Merino superwash yarn in burgundy and cloud, by DHG. On the inside the stars are in wine and the main colour is grey, and because the toque is double thick, a finer weight yarn works well. Thanks for sharing your beautifully made project, Clodagh.

May colour of the month from Ancient Arts is inspired by Roger Bradfield’s “Hello Rock”. Now out of print, but thanks to Fernie Heritage Library a copy was borrowed. It is a delightful story of how a small boy makes friends with a rock and ultimately decides that it is perfect just as it is. Beautiful yarn colours dyed on Nettlesoft DK.

Eye of the Needle will be open but with reduced hours this Saturday, 1:30 until 5:30. Sandra has made a spring ensemble to wear to the afternoon high tea at the Senior’s Centre, organized as a fundraiser by Fernie Women’s Resource Centre. Sorry for the inconvenience, but it’s great to support a good cause and enjoy being part of it.

It was a pleasure to welcome Fernie’s sip and stitch knitting and crochet group to the Eye of the Needle studio for the first time on Sunday. Starting with eight ladies, it grew to twelve during the two hour session from 4:00 until 6:00. Although self directed, the monthly group is led by Stitched By Marissa and will hopefully return again.
