Being a chartered accountant In Australia one would wonder why I would relocate back to Zimbabwe?
Well I always knew I wanted to live back home, so after not being happy for some time I took the plunge and came back home without a solid plan.
After trying out several ventures livestock farming became my passion and now I breathe and talk pigs. I started this business because I wanted to contribute in anyway I can to this nation. I employ people and feed people. As a young farmer I hope to inspire young people that this industry can be lucrative too.
Starting my business I thought the growth would be quick but reality soon sunk in and now I am learning that even small progress is still progress. We have grown from starting with around 20 pigs to about 130 pigs. Also running a butchery in Harare is a milestone and a canteen service in Harare feeding close to 200 staff members for lunch everyday. Pigberry an agribusiness enterprise aims is on track to be providing pork from ‘farm to fork’ as we primary produce the pork at the farm and sell our pork and other processed items such as sausages and mince at our butchery.
The lesson I have learnt is perseverance, its so easy to give up especially with the fluctuations of our economy but I continue to soldier on.
