The market only takes place on the first Saturday of each month from 09:00 - 15:00 (except for January). The Pure Boland Market started in February 2009 when Tharina Marais saw an opening in the market for small businesses in the Breede River Valley area to sell their home grown and homemade products as well as handmade arts and crafts. The Pure Boland Market at the “Groenstoor” in picturesque Brandwacht just outside Worcester, became a monthly favourite among locals and since then people came from all parts of the Western Cape to enjoy the local produce and delicious homemade food at this monthly market. What we did during the Covid-19 Lockdown:
During the first few weeks of the Covid-19 pandemic / National lockdown level 5 in South Africa, Tharina and her husband Pieter realised that it might be ages before the market can be fully operational again, so they decided to take the market online. For almost two years the online market shop was the main platform for supporting these local small businesses and entrepreneurs. As businesses started to go back to normal and the monthly market could operate smoothly again, they decided to go back to the original concept of the monthly market ONLY. Both Tharina and Pieter run their own businesses (apart from the market), so time wise it just made sense. The online shop lie close to their hearts and the decision to end it was not taken lightly. With a toddler in the house, family time came first when the final decision had to be made.
